“What are you doing?”
She yelped, banging her head on a shelf, then cursed under her breath. Straightening with a glare, she rubbed the back of her head. Her face flamed.
“I’m hungry,” she said sharply.
“And who’s fault is that?”
“Yours,” she clipped, sweeping her gaze over the kitchen. “I haven’t had anything to eat in nearly twenty-four hours. Do you have anything to eat? Oh, right, I forgot that psychopaths don’t get hungry.”
“Well that’s not true at all.” I closed the distance to the fridge, and she shuffled back as I shut the door. “You had something just hours before my father arrived.”
Her brows creased right before her flush deepened with understanding, and she gritted her teeth. “Your cum doesn’t count.”
“Sure it does.”
Eyes flashing, she looked to the windows. A simmer of rage took over her expression—so pure, it was like looking in my own mirror. Perhaps she was hiding something, and that look left me more curious than ever.
What did little Hale do that I didn’t know about?
She was breathtaking this way, and it took everything in me not to stoke the fire. Or spread her legs until she was coming on my face again. I wanted answers though, and I knew she wouldn’t give me anything if she was pissed and hungry.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“To leave.”
“To eat, Sutton. What do you want to eat? I’ll get whatever you want and have it sent here.”
Though silent, Sutton flicked her eyes toward me and worked her lower lip between her teeth. I wanted nothing more than to plop it out and bite it. Her eyes danced over the cabinets as if she were lost in thought, like choosing her next meal was difficult. I already knew what she’d request. Her go-to meal was always a steak, and I had no doubt she was craving something that required a knife.
Another minute went by before she asked, “Anything?”
“Tell me what you want, and I’ll get it.”
She shrugged. “I… don’t know what I want.”
I sighed, pinching my bruised nose. “Make a decision or I’ll make it for you.”
A faint smile tugged at her mouth before disappearing, as if annoying me was amusing. She cleared her throat, lifting her chin. “Steak. Medium. And not the cheap kind from one of those shitty restaurants. Get it from that new steakhouse that just opened up.”
The corner of my lip tugged up. “Anything else, Princess?”
Her eyes narrowed. “No.”
Making sure to request pre-cut steaks, I placed the order and told Axell to pick it up when it was ready. Sutton wandered off, looking around before craning her neck toward the second floor.
“What’s up there?”
“My workspace. Do you want a tour while we wait?”
She huffed, shaking her head. “The last time you gave me a tour, you manipulated me into my own kidnapping. I think I’ll just look around myself.”
“Well, it’s not like you can get any more kidnapped than you already are. I'll show you around,” I remarked. She grumbled beneath her breath when I walked past with a grin and motioned to the second floor. “After you.”
“Your moods are giving me whiplash,” she replied, scaling the steps. “I find it unnerving how quickly you can go from kidnapping me to having a… normal conversation.”
“My moods are dependent on how well you behave.” I stopped at the top and smirked, now eager to provoke. “Are you going to be good for me? Or do you want to revisit your punishment from earlier? You looked so pretty on your knees.”
“You’re an asshole,” she clipped, but then fell silent as her attention shifted to the room. Her breath hitched at the sight of the lit up monitors—the cameras surrounding the penthouse.
