“Mafia?” Rome asks with his eyebrow raised.

Cash nods and sighs. “Yes, but I haven’t been able to find anything about them, so they can’t be that successful. Anyway, as soon as dad could escape, he did, and they’ve pretty much left him alone until now.”

“Interesting,” Jynx adds. “It’s curious why they would get in contact after all of this time.”

“That’s what’s concerning me, and why I want to see whether it was a casual ‘hi, how are you’, or whether they’re after something specific,” Cash explains.

“We can definitely head out there. We want to go and have a look at Knox’s place anyway, and we haven’t got any active jobs going on at the moment, so it’s the perfect time,” Trick replies.

“Great, there’s not too much rush,” Cash replies.

“We can head out in a couple of days,” Trick replies. He smirks, “That should give us enough time to get bored with resting. Shall we rent a house this time?”

“Yes please,” Rafe replies immediately. “I love our parents, but we need our own space. Plus, we’re going to be coming and going looking into Knox’s place. We may as well rent somewhere so we don’t have to answer a million questions.”

“I’ll book somewhere,” Cash replies, pulling his laptop closer and opening a window while he finishes his breakfast.

“Great,” Trick replies. “Alright, we know what we’re doing, and we’ll make sure that we have bags packed and ready to go in case you guys need us.”

“Thank you,” Rome replies. “We appreciate it.”

“Family first and always,” Atty replies with a smile.

We finish up breakfast, or I suppose lunch since it's midday already, and then we all split up to do the various things we need to.

“Do we need to message Pete before we just head down there?” Jynx asks as we hop into my car.

I shake my head. “Nope, he’s been messaging me, asking me when I can come and help him, for the last thirty minutes. I stopped replying after the fourth time I told him when we would be coming down.”

Chapter Thirty-Four

She laughs, “Alright, so he’s fully freaking out then.”

“Oh yeah,” I agree. We spot a familiar car coming up the drive, and I wave as I say, “Oh, look, it’s Raid and the guys. They must have dropped Zemi off.”

“I didn’t quite realize how interesting their dynamic was before,” Jynx says, sounding somewhat distracted. “I mean, I know we’ve hung out, and I message and call Zemi quite a lot. She’s one of us, but I’ve never noticed it before, not like I have over the last couple of days.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean,” I reply. “They all balance each other really well. You should see their place, it’s incredible.”

Jynx smiles. “They already invited us over. Zemi said she’d ask you about it too. I’m assuming she didn’t find you immediately and then forgot.”

My smile widens. “Yeah, that sounds about right.”

When we get down to Pete’s place, it becomes even more obvious that he is fully freaking out, as we spot Elijah sitting outside on the steps with Shadow, holding a glass that suspiciously looks like it's got whisky in it.

We both hop out.

“That bad?” Jynx asks with a raised eyebrow.

Elijah grimaces. “I love him more than anything, but he is a nightmare when it comes to packing. I’ve tried everything that usually calms him down, and it’s not working. Zemi’s in there now.”

“Why don’t you head up to our place? It’s manic but probably calmer than this. We’ll make sure he’s got everything he actually needs, and that it’s packed in your car,” I suggest.

“Is that okay?” Eli asks with a hopeful expression.

Jynx grins, “Of course it is. We’ll also remind him that he can buy stuff while you’re there.”
