“Yeah?” Jekyll sipped his coffee.

“Yeah, Jek. Heard about Imogene showing up at the party.”

His gaze darkened. “Gent invited her.”

Hyde settled in his seat. “Of course he fucking did. He’ll do just about anything to get under your skin.”

It’s working.

Jekyll steeled his features. He wouldn’t admit to anything. Unfortunately, he didn’t have to. Hyde knew him better than anyone.

Cypher tapped the table, getting his attention. “We were talking about her dad.”

“Yeah, since my run in with her, I wanted to know more,” Hyde said.

Jekyll jerked his head. “What fucking run-in?”

“About two hours ago at the gas station.” He smiled. “I treated her to lunch.”

Fucking asshole.

“Yeah? What a fucking gentleman you are.”

Hyde laughed and turned to Cypher. “Got home and found Cy waiting on you. It seems Imogene is a hot topic around here.”

What the fuck? He turned to Cypher.

His brother held up his hand. “You asked me to dig deeper, so I did. Was waiting on you when Hyde showed up.”

“You get something else?”

“So I told you about her inheritance, right?” Cypher asked.

Jekyll nodded. “She used it for her father’s defense.”

“Right and that money was all kept in a bank account specifically for the lawyers to withdraw funds. Most of it was used for the first trial.” Cypher clasped his hands. “Looked into her finances, and she also sold her condo. Made about a hundred grand on it.”

Jekyll clenched his jaw, suspecting where this was going. “Don’t even tell me she put it towards her father’s lawyers for the retrial.”

“Well, see, that’s what I can’t figure out. She definitely deposited it over to her father, but it didn’t go into that specific account. There was another one set up with the cash from her house about three weeks after she closed. Imogene gets the money, wires it to her dad’s new account.” He paused. “And three days before he’s murdered, the money is gone. And I can’t trace where it went.”

“Back to Imogene?” Hyde asked.

Cypher shook his head. “I got all her financials. There’s a reason why she was living at the motel and on a tight budget. She can’t afford much more if she wants to eat. She recently made a cash withdrawal for sixteen hundred dollars. Thinking that’s rent and security, but who the hell pays in cash anymore?”

What the fuck was going on with her?

“You find out where she’s living?” he asked.

Cypher scoffed. “No. At this point, it’d be quicker just to ask her.”

Jekyll intended on doing just that. He grasped the back of his neck, going over everything Cypher just told him. Imogene gave her father everything she owned, and now she was left struggling. Why? Jekyll ground his teeth, clutching his fist around his mug. From everything he’d learned, her father was nothing more than a murdering conman who was exactly where he should be. Six feet under. Everyone knew it. Except her.

“Why would she stand by him, give him everything?”

“She thought he was innocent.” Cypher said.

“Everybody knows he fucking did it.”
