The Innocent

Jekyll squared his jaw. “Don’t make me fucking kill you.”

What is happening? It was the second time Jekyll had threatened him with death. This is bad. And it seemed she was the catalyst.

“Alright, man, you want to hang out with Cherry, then have fun.” Gent gestured to Imogene. “Gave our girl a nickname.”

She kind of liked it, but from his reaction, Jekyll didn’t.

“You’re seconds away from your last fucking breath.” Jekyll growled and started to stand.

On pure instinct, she grabbed his arm. Jekyll stiffened under her touch but didn’t move. He glared down at her hand and she quickly pulled it away. Another member came in between Gent and the table, pointing across the room. “Ace is looking for you.”

Gent cocked his brow. “Is that right, Cue?”

“Yeah, so I suggest you go fucking find him.” Cue scowled. “Now, Gent.”

Gent smiled, seemingly unaffected by the tense interaction.

“See you around, Cherry.” Gent winked.

He walked away, and she expected Cue to follow, but he pulled out a chair and sat. He looked over at Jekyll and shook his head.

“I swear that fucker has a death wish.”

“And I’m gonna make it come true if he keeps that shit up.” Jekyll’s graveled, stern voice was void of any humor.

This is my fault. Imogene was obviously causing tension between the men. She wasn’t sure what she’d done, but at this point it didn’t matter. It was best she left. If for no other reason than to keep the peace between the friends.

“Jekyll” —she hooked her thumb over her shoulder— “I should go. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble.” She went to stand, but he grasped her wrist and pulled her arm. She lost her footing and stumbled backwards, landing in his lap.

“Oh my God, I’m sorry.” She scrambled to get up, but his arm wrapped around her waist with his hand gripping her hip, making it impossible to move. It put them in a very intimate position, and her cheeks heated.

“Why the hell do you keep talking about leaving?”

Wasn’t it obvious? She adjusted her position on his lap, and his eyes heated. Her ass was planted dead center against his, if I’m right… —She gulped, trying to batten down the heat rising from her chest— his growing erection?

Imogene subtly shook her head, getting her mind back on track and off of Jekyll’s hard cock.

“I’m causing a problem.”

He shook his head. “No, you ain’t.”

What was he talking about? Of course she was.

She chuckled without an ounce of humor. “I think I am.” She leaned close to his ear and his fingers dug into her hip. “I’m the common denominator. If I leave, the problem goes away.”

His chest rumbled, and she couldn’t tell if he was laughing or growling. She straightened as much as she could, and the corner of his mouth curled.

“Then it looks like we’re gonna have a problem all night, ’cause you ain’t going anywhere unless you want to leave.” He cocked his brow, pulling her closer to his chest. “You want to leave?”

Did she? Not at the moment.

“No,” she whispered.

His eyes darkened, and he reached forward, grabbing his glass and shifting her in the process. She expected him to let her go. He didn’t. “Then you’re gonna stay. With me. Not Gent.”

Okay.
