They’d have each other.
Best friends.

Jekyll should’ve still been in bed sleeping. The long run had taken its toll. But he was up early and on his way to see Cypher a little before nine the next morning.
Cypher had only been able to give him limited information over the phone. He’d confirmed she was now living in Lawry as of a few months ago and provided the address. An old one as he discovered yesterday.
He rode down to the motel. The brothel operations had been shut down after the incident with Cleo. But there’d been talk about reopening. It had always been a steady source of income for the club.
It was set up like an old motel with a separate lobby. Cypher had his own office in the back. Jekyll pulled in front and parked. Through the large cloudy window he saw Cypher and Gent. How the fuck is he still up? He wouldn’t have this conversation in front of Gent.
Jekyll walked in, lifting his chin in greeting.
“Jek, man, how’s it going?” Cypher asked.
“Alright.” He veered his gaze to Gent. “Up early.”
“Same as you, brother.” Gent winked and straightened in his seat. “Let me take a wild guess why you’re here? The prison librarian?” Gent laughed. “Imogene Peppercorn? Imagine screaming that shit out while fucking.”
I have, brother.
“You got what you need, Gent?” Cypher narrowed his gaze.
Gent darted his eyes between him and Cypher. “Kicking me out?”
“Yeah.” Cypher smiled, gesturing toward the door. “Get the fuck out.”
He stood, and the corner of his mouth curled. “Maybe I want to know more about her too. What do you think, Jek? Can I stay?”
He clenched his jaw and growled. “Gent.”
It was a warning that Gent usually chose to ignore. He didn’t this time.
Gent snorted but walked out. Jekyll watched until he drove out of the lot.
Cypher sighed. “Still trying to figure out how no one’s killed him yet?”
Jekyll gave in to a smile and looked over at the brother. Me too.
“So, Imogene?” Cypher asked. “Heard you ran into her in Lawry.”
Jekyll furrowed his brows. He hadn’t mentioned any details in his text. He’d just asked Cypher to take another look into her and gave the city location.
“Cue told me.”
That made sense. It was a strange encounter and had put him on edge. Every brother noticed. Cypher straightened in his chair and immediately started tapping on the laptop in front of him. The club had done a deep dive when he’d initially asked for the information. He didn’t give a reason. He didn’t have to. She’d come up clean with the exception of the information on her dad.
“She hasn’t updated her driver’s license. No current address outside of the motel. But she does have a new PO box. It was set up last week. Weird, though. She already had an existing box. Why close it just to open a new one in the same location? Doesn’t make much sense.”
No, it doesn’t.
“Went by the motel yesterday. She moved. Neighbors didn’t know shit.”
“Well, it must’ve been recent because that’s the address they had on file at the Public Library where she works. But...” Cypher knitted his brows and leaned closer to the screen. “Looks like she just got a second job.”
“Where?” he snapped.
