He grabbed her waist, yanked her against his chest, and growled. “Our house.”
I love that.
“Ours.” She hopped up on her toes, brushing her lips against his.
“I can drive you over.”
Imogene laughed, “I’m not going to a strip club with my boyfriend.”
He narrowed his gaze, and she kissed him again, pulling away and heading toward the door. He was two steps behind her. He stood on the edge of the curb until she backed out and started down the street. She was looking in her rearview mirror when she heard a woman shout.
“Stop!”
Imogene slammed on her brakes, jerking forward. Her heart pounded against her chest. What just happened? She saw a flash of red from the front lawn at Cue’s house. Eden bent down, picking up her little scruffy dog. Did I almost hit him? Imogene threw the car in park and got out, rounding the front bumper. Jekyll was stalking down the street.
Eden clutched the dog to her chest, her eyes darting between her and Jekyll. “I’m so sorry, I wasn’t yelling at you.” She pointed to the dog. “I was yelling at him. He was getting close to the street when I saw you coming, and I just got scared and screamed. I’m so sorry.”
What, no!
“It’s okay. I’m just so relieved he didn’t get hurt.”
“You got a fucking fenced in yard back there!” Jekyll shouted, and Imogene instinctively turned and slapped his chest. He turned his glare on her. But she wasn’t about to listen to a word he said.
“Don’t yell at her! She said she was sorry. Can’t you see how upset she is?”
Jekyll straightened, keeping his glare pinned on Imogene.
“I will use the yard from now on, I promise,” Eden said, clearly sensing the tension. “Again, I’m sorry. I guess I was just looking for a change of scenery. Only so many times you can circle the neighborhood.” She laughed, which eased the mood.
It also prompted an idea.
“Would you like to come to the strip club with me?”
Eden widened her eyes and looked over at Jekyll as if she’d lost her mind. He snickered, dragging his hand down his beard.
“Why don’t you tell her why you’re going.”
She turned back to Eden, who remained silent and seemingly in shock.
“I work at a resource center, and one of my clients is a dancer. She prefers to meet up with me at the club on her break. It’s more convenient.”
“Oh, okay.” Eden laughed. “That makes sense.”
“So do you want to come with me? We can get lunch while we’re there.”
Eden didn’t say a word but looked over to Jekyll.
“Would that be okay with him?” Eden asked.
With who?
Jekyll hesitated then gave a curt nod. “I’ll let Cue know.”
“Great.” Eden instantly perked up. “Let me just put him away and grab my bag.” She raced up the stairs and into the house.
“You hit me.” He growled.
I did not! Technically, yes but it wasn’t hard. It certainly wasn’t meant to hurt him.
