Jekyll leaned up on his elbow. “Tell me.”

Her cheeks pinkened. “Um…”

“Tell me.”

She licked her lips. “I went into a restricted access area at the prison and photocopied information of an inmate for my own personal use.”

“Who?”

She cleared her throat and whispered. “You.”

Jekyll stared back at her, and she felt the heat rise from her chest to her cheeks. Maybe she shouldn’t have shared that.

“I wasn’t going to use it for anything.”

His jaw squared. “Why’d you take it?”

She shrugged. Hadn’t she already shared enough?

“Imogene.” He growled.

“I just wanted to know more about you. Maybe have something. I know it’s silly, but I…”

Imogene never finished her sentence. Jekyll yanked her down to his chest and kissed her.

I guess he’s not mad.

When his phone pinged, he groaned, but seemingly ignored it and rolled her onto her back. Then it pinged again, and he broke away from the kiss. He leaned across her, and she couldn’t resist; she caressed her fingers over his chest. This man was solid. She felt him stiffen under her touch and glanced up. His eyes were trained on the phone, and the lines on his forehead deepened.

“What’s wrong?”

He dropped the phone on the nightstand and climbed out of bed. “Gotta take a ride with the club. Get dressed. Jeans and boots.”

“I’m coming with you?”

Jekyll was pulling up his jeans and reaching for his cut on the back of the chair. “Yeah.”

It was all he said before walking out the door.

Jekyll didn’t give her a heads up. Maybe he should’ve. Or maybe being unprepared was better. He’d find out soon enough. They pulled into the parking lot of the X-Lounge and waited for the others to arrive. When he’d gotten the message that the meeting was set up so quickly, he was eager to get it done. But he hadn’t expected Oz to demand that Imogene be there.

After he’d left Imogene in his room, he walked out to his backyard, and called Ace. Oz’s demands were non-negotiable but it didn’t stop Jekyll from trying to refuse or come up with an alternative plan. There was no reason for her to be there. Then, Ace gave him one. The whole truth about her dad.

Her arm was wrapped around his waist and she squeezed his stomach.

“Are you taking me dancing?” She giggled and he rested his hand over hers.

Realistically, this was for the best. Hearing it from an indisputable source would carry more weight than coming from him. She’d finally get the answers she needed. Still, he felt a sense of guilt knowing she was walking in blind.

Her eyes scanned his face. “What’s wrong?”

Thankfully, he didn’t have time to answer. The brothers pulled into the lot and parked. He turned and grasped her hips.

“Remember when you told me about your dad. That you still wanted to look into everything ’cause you had some doubts.”

She knitted her brows. “I didn’t say I had doubts.”
