“You’re not going to hurt him, right?”
Jekyll leaned in, kissing her. “No.”
He walked across the room, keeping his eyes on the cat, who had gone into protection mode. The hair on his back stood, and a grumbling growl echoed through the room. It didn’t slow Jekyll down. When Hank attempted to swat him, Jekyll grabbed both paws in one hand, and scooped his arm under the cat’s belly. He tucked him against his chest and the growling faded.
When Jekyll turned, Imogene was standing a few feet away, eyes the size of saucers and mouth gaping.
“Where do you want him?”
She was silent.
“Imogene? Where?”
She blinked, coming out of her trance and pointing to the living room. “He likes the chair in the corner.”
Jekyll scoffed. “I don’t give a shit what he likes. Where do you want him?”
She twisted her lips, shrugging.
Jekyll smiled, knowing her answer before she even said it.
“Um, the chair in the corner.”
Jekyll walked through the room, placed him on the chair, and walked back to the kitchen.
“I’ve never been able to pick him up.”
No shit.
“Yeah, I figured that. You need to remind him you’re not his fucking pet.”
She hiked her brows. “You think that he thinks” —she pressed her hand against her chest— “I’m the pet, and he’s the owner?”
That’s exactly what that angry fucker thinks. “Let’s go for breakfast.”
“And a ride?”
He arched his brow. “Created a fucking monster.”
“I’m addicted.”
His lips twitched, and he lifted his chin. “Get dressed. Jeans and boots.”
Imogene gave him a quick kiss and rushed back to the bathroom.

These were the best kind of rides. Jekyll had no destination except to get out of the city. They rode for about an hour before stopping to get something to eat. It wasn’t anything more than a food truck, but Imogene seemed to like it. He took the last bite of his breakfast burrito when he heard a soft moan. He glanced down and she was licking her lips, smiling.
The corner of his mouth curled. “That good, huh?”
Her hands were wrapped around the cup and she chuckled. “I love hot chocolate. You want to try it?”
“No.”
“It’s really good.”
Jekyll snorted. “Hate anything chocolate.”
