“This is nothing,” I say, grinning down at her. “Did you hear some of the things that came out of my mouth over the last few days? I get these hazy little flashbacks, and it’s hard not to bang my head against the wall.”
“Nah, don’t be embarrassed. It was hot in the moment.”
“Do you have a breeding kink?” I quirk a brow. “It feels like that’s something I should know about, if you do.”
She laughs. “I don’t even know what that means, but I do want kids one day.”
“Me too,” I admit. “Were we playing with fire during this heat? Or do you have some form of birth control?”
“I do,” she says, nodding. “An IUD.”
Damn.
That makes all the shit I talked seem extra ridiculous.
“That’s probably a good thing,” I say, running my fingers through her long hair. “It gives us the chance to really get to know each other before we introduce kids into the mix.”
“Yeah.”
“Before I forget, I wanted to tell you something…” I trail off, wondering if I even want to broach this subject. It might make me sound crazy.
Abby rests her palms on my chest, tilting her face up toward mine. “Don’t leave me in suspense.”
“The night before your heat hit, I talked to my grandma after Lawson carried you to bed,” I say, shrugging. “I was telling her about you and how you smell electric, and she told me an old wives’ tale about that particular smell.”
“That’s crazy,” she says. “You smell the same way to me too. Electric and stormy. Almost like lightning, if lightning was a scent.”
“Exactly.” I nod. “Apparently it was a well-known thing back when single couple pairings were the norm. Now that packs are more common, the information isn’t being passed down as frequently. Basically, that smell is reserved for soul matches. It’s one step up from a scent match. Kinda like soulmates. I’m not saying that our bond is any more important than the connection you have with Luka or Lawson. It’s just what my grandma told me.”
“Huh,” she says, bouncing her fingertips against my pec. “Is there anything else important that we should know?”
“Not really.” I shake my head. “Well, she said we’ll be most comfortable when we’re close together. She also mentioned it could cause some jealousy within the pack, but another way to think about it is that all three of us are your perfect matches. Luka, Lawson, and I were already a pack before we found you. For me to click with them, it’s showing our pack is the best match you’ll ever find. No other scent matches would have been as fulfilling of a connection.”
She smiles and stretches up onto her tiptoes to kiss the edge of my mouth. “I could have told you that. The three of you make me so happy.”
“That goes both ways, pretty girl.”
“I know.” She beams. “Now, can we get out? I’m turning into a prune.”
“Yeah, let’s do it.” I chuckle. “I’m starving.”
“I’m sure you guys burned a lot of calories fucking me into oblivion.”
I snort.
Goddamn.
She really is perfect for us.
Chapter Thirty-One
Abby
Even though I’m sure Bryant and Luka need to get back to work to check on the gym and the restaurant, they stay home and spend the next few days pampering the hell out of me.
Shadow and Echo have become thick as thieves, which is cute. Echo will lie around, snuggling with me, but she also abandons me to play with Shadow quite regularly.
Honestly, I kinda feel like she’s adopted Lawson as her person. Maybe she just views him as her pack leader. I don’t know, but I find it sweet how excited she gets whenever he calls her name.
