Slapshot Kiss

That sounds like the Wyatt I know and love.

“He also told me that whatever happened with his career was his responsibility, and he didn't appreciate me making you feel like you had to carry it for him.”

My eyes sting.

Of course my ridiculous, stubborn boyfriend marched into my father's office and said exactly what he thought.

I let out a shaky breath.

Dad's gaze returns to mine.

“I still don't love the situation, Quinn. I probably never will. But I was wrong to make you think you had to choose between loving him and protecting him.”

A tear slips down my cheek before I can stop it.

Dad immediately looks alarmed. “Oh, sweetheart.”

“I'm fine.”

“You're crying.”

“Because you're being nice, and it's weird.”

He lets out a surprised laugh.

Then he pulls me into a hug. I wrap my arms around him and bury my face against his shoulder. For a few seconds, he just holds me.

“I love you, Dad.”

“I love you too.”

I pull back and wipe my cheeks.

By the time Wyatt comes out of the locker room, I've managed to fix my makeup and stop looking like I spent the last ten minutes crying.

He spots me immediately.

His face lights up, and he heads straight toward me with his bag slung over one shoulder.

There's something about the way he looks at me that still makes my stomach flip.

“Hey, Peachy.”

He drops his bag and pulls me into his arms.

I rise onto my toes and kiss him.

He makes a pleased sound against my mouth.

“Fuck, I like it when you do that.”

“Do what?”

“Kiss me like you're planning to take advantage of me later.”

I smile against his lips. “Who says I'm planning anything?”

“Your face.”
