He walks beside me to the shower. Who knew Jordan could be so relentless?
“Let me summarize this. Twenty-four hours ago, you were planning how to tell her dad you’re in love with her, and now you look like you’ve been hit by a truck.”
“I already told you. She dumped me.”
“I heard you. But what I didn’t hear was why she dumped you.”
“She basically said we got carried away and that it was never that serious.”
Jordan’s expression is strange. “She told you that?”

“No. I mean, when did she decide this?”
I stare at him, but that’s exactly what I’ve been wondering myself.
“Wyatt, didn’t she want you to tell Brennan?”
“Yeah…”
Jordan has a point, and that weird feeling I had last night comes roaring back full force.
“Isn’t it weird that yesterday morning she wanted you to tell her dad about the relationship she apparently didn’t care that much about a few hours later?”
Jordan has hit the nail on the head. That’s exactly it!
I see Quinn standing in her kitchen again.
What if he cuts your minutes?
What if they trade you?
What if another team doesn’t want you?
Then I told her I’d rather lose LA than lose her.
Her face changed, and what I saw there wasn’t joy but fear.
And later, when I told her I was choosing her anyway—
That’s exactly the problem.
My heartbeat kicks harder.
Jordan is watching me. “What?”
I drag a hand over my face. “Brennan must’ve gotten to her.”
“Shit!”
“Exactly.”
Yesterday morning, Quinn was in my arms.
