I hadn’t realized how much I missed that.
By the time I head toward the exit, Wyatt is standing near the boards with his gear bag over one shoulder.
He spots me almost immediately and excuses himself from whatever Dmitri is saying before falling into step beside me.
“You good?”
“Yeah.”
His arm comes around me automatically, and I lean into him for a second before remembering where we are and stepping away.
“You played well today.”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t act like you don’t know. Even my dad said you were on fire.”
His eyebrows go up. “He said that?”
“Pretty much.”
“Damn. Should’ve recorded it.”
I smile despite myself.
The door behind us swings open before I can answer.
“Quinn!” Jordan comes jogging toward us, slightly out of breath. “I’m desperate.”
“What’s up?”
“Can you give me a ride home? My car broke down. You live in my direction, right?”
“Yeah, pretty much.”
“Perfect.” He looks at Wyatt. “See? Brennan likes me better. She’s giving me rides now.”
Wyatt snorts.
“What’s this about my daughter?” All three of us turn. Dad is standing just outside the door.
Jordan opens his mouth, but nothing comes out, so I laugh before the silence has a chance to get weird.
“He’s messing with Larkin, Dad.”
Dad looks between the two of them. “Let’s mess with Larkin without bringing my daughter into it.”
Then his attention is already somewhere else, and he walks off with his clipboard tucked under his arm.
Jordan waits until he’s out of earshot before looking at Wyatt.
“If I have to do laps tomorrow, you’re doing them with me.”
“You did that to yourself.”
Jordan mutters something under his breath. Wyatt looks at me, and I can see the amusement still sitting right there in his eyes.
“That was close. Your dad really does just appear out of nowhere.”
