He came for me.
Not for the port, the routes, or the freight.
Me.
His thumb remains against the F while gunfire rattles through the warehouse and men shout in the distance. The emergency lights flicker across the bodies at our feet.
Neither of us breaks eye contact.
Fionn releases the pendant and catches the bottom of the balaclava. He drags it over his mouth and nose, leaving it bunched above his forehead.
His jaw is locked, and his lips part around a hard breath.
I can’t stop looking at them.
His hand closes around the side of my neck and slides to my nape, drawing me in until his forehead rests against mine.
His breath warms my mouth while his thumb presses beneath my ear. The wait stretches between us, filled with everything he said in the ballroom and everything he’s admitted by coming here tonight.
I lift my chin until my lips brush his.
Fionn holds me there for another heartbeat.
Then his mouth takes mine.
The kiss is hot, hungry, and rough, tearing a whimper from me. I grab his shirt and pull him closer until our chests bump, and the ache that drops through me is immediate and obscene, given there are men dying forty feet away.
I bite his lower lip, and his grunt vibrates against my mouth.
He tastes of smoke, rain, whiskey, and Fionn, and I’ve missed all of it. I’ve missed the way he takes control while giving me room to fight him for it. I’ve missed the anger he drags out of me, and the hunger waiting beneath it.
My body doesn’t care where we are. My nipples are hard against his chest, my thighs are pressing together, and I’m wet in the middle of an ambush with a gun at my hip because Fionn Harrington put his mouth on me.
His free hand braces against the wall beside my head, keeping the gun away while his mouth moves over mine with none of the distance he forced between us at the charity event.
I kiss him harder because he came for me. Because I need this version of him. The man who’s consumed my every waking thought for weeks.
Because the F has always been his.
Because he tried to make me believe I was alone in this, and now his mouth is proving I never was.
Saint’s voice tears through the corridor.
“Sera!”
Fionn breaks the kiss, but his hand remains at my nape, and his fast breath warms my mouth.
“Come with me,” he says. “I’ll get you out of here.”
Reality pushes back in around us. My brothers are under attack inside the docks, with the Crowe threat still out there.
“I won’t leave them.”
“I brought men. We’ll clear the docks.”
“They’re my brothers.”
“And you’re coming with me.”
