The Mobster’s Mistress

by Morgan Jane Mitchell

Heat shoots through me. I raise an eyebrow. “Bossy again?”

“Turn around, Bridget.”

There’s something in his voice that makes me do it before I can invent a smart answer. The city stretches beyond the enormous windows. Lights everywhere. My naked reflection faintly visible in the glass. Enzo appears behind me. His hands settle on my hips. I inhale.

“Still okay?”

“Yes.”

“Sure?”

I turn my head. “Lorenzo, if you ask me one more time, I’m going to throw something expensive through your window.”

His laugh brushes my neck. “There’s my girl.”

My girl. The words are becoming dangerously easy to love. His mouth touches my shoulder. His hands move slowly over my sides. Then lower.

He turns me back toward him and kisses me. The kiss starts rough. Somewhere in the middle it changes. His hand cups my face. Mine settles against his chest. The heat is still there, but so is something else. Something neither of us has said. I’m suddenly afraid he can feel it in the way I’m kissing him. So I pull back and say the safest thing available.

“You’re wearing entirely too much.”

Enzo looks down at his open trousers. “I’m basically naked.”

“Basically doesn’t count.”

“You’re very demanding.”

“And yet you keep inviting me over.”

“I plan to keep doing that.”

My heart stumbles again. Dangerous man.

I push his trousers down the rest of the way. “Bedroom?”

His eyes remain on mine. “We’re not making it.”

“What?”

Enzo grabs my waist. I laugh when he lifts me. “Showing off again?”

“Absolutely.”

My legs wrap around him. He carries me a few steps and sets me on the wide dining table instead. I stare at him.

“Enzo.”

“What?”

“This table probably costs more than my car.”

“Then it should be sturdy.”

I burst out laughing. He kisses me before I can object.

“This is where you want to have sex?”

“I’ve wanted to fuck you on this table since you sat at it last week arguing that expensive wine tastes like grape juice with student loans.”
