Her breathing changes. “Do you think—”

“Yes.” The word comes out flat. I don't soften it. I can't. “Call the police.”

Bishop's eyes meet mine. He nods once.

“I'm coming.” I hang up.

Smoke is already moving toward me. “What happened?”

I look at Bishop. “Mercer has her.”

Smoke explodes. “What the fuck do you mean Mercer has her?”

“He took Callie.”

“How the fuck did he take her out of a fucking restaurant?”

“I don't know.”

He opens his mouth, but whatever he sees on my face shuts him the fuck up.

I hand Alibi's leash to Smoke. “Keep him here.”

Smoke stares at me.

“Callie will fucking kill me if anything happens to him.”

Smoke's expression tightens as he takes the leash. “Nothing's happening to him.”

I nod once.

Bishop turns to one of his men. “You stay with them.” Then to the other. “You're with us.”

He pulls out his phone. “I want two more at Hearth and Honey. One starts pulling cameras. The other gets me every vehicle that left the rear of that building from the time McConnell dropped her off until her sister found the purse.”

I see Callie through the windshield again. Her smile. Her wave. The glass door closing behind her.

Safe. I fucking thought she was safe.

“She did exactly what I told her to do.” My voice doesn't sound like mine. “She stayed inside.”

Smoke looks away.

I look at Bishop. “Find Mercer.”

His expression changes.

I've worked for him for eleven years. He's seen me kill. He's seen me injured. He's seen me covered in someone else's blood. He's seen me do things most people couldn’t sleep after witnessing.

But he's never seen this.

Bishop nods once. “We'll find her.”

I turn toward the door.

Mercer made one huge mistake.

He took the wrong fucking woman.
