“Bishop's people can examine it.”
“Who's Bishop?”
“My boss.”
Callie perks up.
I immediately point at her. “No.”
Her brows rise. “I didn't say anything.”
“You were about to.”
Smoke looks between us. “What the fuck is happening?”
“Nothing,” I say.
Smoke opens a safe built into a cabinet behind his desk. He reaches inside, then stops.
My hand moves automatically toward my weapon.
Smoke turns. His face has changed.
“What?”
He doesn't answer.
“Smoke.”
“The flash drive isn't here.”
Callie stands. “What do you mean it isn't there?”
“I mean it's not fucking here.”
“Who has access to the safe?”
“No one but me.”
“Then where is it?”
“I don't know.”
I stand. “When did you last see it?”
Smoke rubs both hands over his face.
“A couple of weeks ago. Maybe three.”
“Before or after the man came asking about Calder?”
His hands drop. “After.”
So Mercer—or whoever came here—didn't get it then. Maybe he doesn't know Smoke found it.
My phone is already in my hand. I call Bishop.
He answers on the second ring. “What?”
