“You have a lot of nerve coming into my store. I’m closed. Leave,” I say, not giving her a chance to explain why she’s here.

I don’t care and don’t want to know.

Jen sleeping with Rob has only aided my plan. Playing the scorned girlfriend, on top of being mistreated by Rob, has worked out beautifully with Alden. Not only is he my rescuer, but it’s made him extra jealous, thinking I care about the affair.

I just don’t like her. She looks at me like she somehow knows who I really am.

“I have a few questions,” Jen says.

“Good for you. I have no openings. Now, I have somewhere to be. So, get out of my shop.”

“Or what? You’ll call the cops?” She smirks, eyes narrowing as she steps closer. “Are you refusing to help with an investigation?”

“Do you have a warrant?”

She gives me a cool smile.

“Do I need one?”

“I’m starting to think so,” I say, resentment burning in my chest.

It has taken me years to find my strength and not let the world and bitches like this push me around. And I’ll never let it happen again.

“This is about Rob. I thought you’d want to help find his killer.”

“Rob’s death was an accident.”

“Yeah…I don’t think it was. Anything you want to share?”

The hair on the back of my neck bristles at her accusatory tone.

“Yeah, actually.” I wait a beat. “You’re a homewrecking slut, but you already know that.”

“Funny.”

“Thanks, I try,” I say, marching around her to push the door open. “Leave. Now.”

“Rob texted me the night he died,” she says, still not leaving.

Sighing, I let the door close and cross my arms.

“Good for you. Did he send you a dick pic? He always liked showing his junk off like it was a prize.”

She sneers at me and still doesn’t leave. This bitch is going to make me late for my dinner with Alden.

“He said that he had a break in a case we were working on, and then he died. That’s far too convenient. So no, I don’t think his death was accidental.”

So, she’s fishing and really has no idea. Good. She can keep guessing. I have no interest in helping her with anything, ever.

“Okay…what does that have to do with me?”

“You were one of the last people to see him alive.”

“Sure, me and fifty other people. Are you knocking on each of their doors personally, or is it only me who gets the special treatment?”

“The two of you shared a bedroom, yes?”

I snort and shake my head, feeling petty.
