He thrusts up into me hard.

“Ah…yes,” I wail.

“You used Rob to get close to me and killed him, didn’t you?”

“Yes,” I moan, his pace quickening. “He was like your father. I saved you from having to remove him yourself. I climbed out the window and was back in my room before you found him.”

Alden suddenly sits up, holding me tight to his chest.

“You killed all those people I dated for what purpose?”

“To show you I’m worthy of your love, and they never were.”

My heart hammers, almost drowning out the rain.

“You drugged me?”

I smile wide.

“Yes. I thought it would be fun to return the favor.”

“How? There was nothing in my bottle or glass.”

Pride fills my chest.

“Who says it’s the same bottle and glass? Do you really think I would leave evidence knowing you’d test it? Come on, Alden…I’m better than that.”

His lip pulls up at the corner.

“Camille and Malcolm?”

I smirk and kiss him deeply before answering.

“Camille thought she could have you, and Malcolm tried to hurt you with his stupidity and arrogance. I’ll never let anyone touch you or hurt you. Not ever. You’re mine, Alden. Every last piece of you, the polished lawyer and the righteous vigilante. They both belong to me. If you don’t want that, then carve my heart out right now, and I’ll accept my fate. But in this life, I believe we only meet one person who truly completes us. You are it for me.”

In the next heartbeat, Alden rolls us over again and attacks my lips as he pounds into my pussy harder than before.

I scream my pleasure into his mouth.

“Emily! You’re fucking mine,” Alden yells, and every muscle flexes as he comes.

The feel of him giving himself over to me…the real me…is my undoing.

Tears streak down the sides of my face as I scream his name to the night and come again. My nails dig into his shoulder blade as wave after wave of pleasure leaves me breathless.

Alden collapses on top of me, and I can feel his heart pounding against mine as he buries his head into the side of my neck. We lie like that for a long time. Long enough for the rain to slow and the heart of the storm to move on. But we remain locked together in each other’s arms until I shiver.

He pushes himself up, and I unhook my arms from over his neck. Alden stands and zips his pants. I wait to see what will happen now that the rush of the moment has passed. Alden walks over to the knife, and I hold my breath. This is where he will pass his final judgment.

He squats beside me and takes my hands, then cuts the ties off before placing soft kisses along the red marks.

“Tell me…how did you get my father’s ring?”

Alden helps me to my feet, waiting for my answer.

I lay my hand on his chest.

“I snuck into the funeral home while it was busy. I watched your fake smiles, then glare at the casket like you wanted to kill the man all over again, and I knew you’d done it. It was no accident. You killed him. I hid and waited until everyone was gone before I stole the ring.”
