“Reign and I are friends.”

“Y’all weren’t friends last week,” I said, eyebrow raised.

She put her hand over her heart. “She getting to know me.”

“Against her will?” I teased.

Yoli picked up a folder and threw it at me. I caught it against my chest, laughing.

“Look, nigga, worry about your own HR violation,” she huffed.

I smirked at her. “Mine already been naked in my pool. I’m past HR.”

Her mouth fell open. I immediately regretted saying it.

“Ooh, I’m calling Thickness,” she crowed.

I stood. “Yoli.”

She snatched her phone from the table.

“I’m telling her you bragging.”

“I wasn’t bragging.”

“You just said that woman was naked in your pool!”

“Give me that damn phone.”

She dodged around the table. For the next thirty seconds, the CEO and chief operating officer of Masters Capital completely abandoned professionalism while I chased her ass around my villa. Eventually, she stopped, laughing and out of breath.

“I wasn’t really calling her.”

“I know.”

Her eyebrows lifted. “Then why you chased me?”

“Been wanting to choke yo’ ass since kindergarten.”

“Stop lying, much as I saved your ass in kindergarten.”

A nigga help you fight off three second-grade bullies one time, and you gotta hear about it for thirty years. I snatched the folder she’d thrown at me and handed it back.

“Go finish Boykins’s shit.”

“Yes, boss.”

“And leave Reign alone long enough for her to work.”

“No promises on that one.”

She walked toward the door, then stopped. “Saadiq.”

“What, nigga?”

“You right. Topaz don’t care about all the money shit. Never has. That’s probably why you trust her so much. I’on know why, but she likes you, jackass. Feed her, talk to her, let her put her feet in the sand. That’s enough. That don’t mean you shouldn't trick off on my homie occasionally, though.”

I knew that, but of course I couldn’t just say that. “You writing a hood advice column now?”
