But she also isn’t pulling back. Her plump lips part slightly, and she searches my eyes, expression soft.
“You broke my heart, Cole.”
“I know.”
“I’ll never forgive you.”
“I understand.”
“You owe me so many explanations.”
“I do.”
She sighs, and her attention drops to my lips. “But just kiss me, please—”
My lips crash to hers without a second’s hesitation, and I pull her body flush to mine. Sunday moans and it’s a flame to gasoline that has me lifting her into my arms, deepening the kiss, my tongue exploring her mouth as she runs her fingers through my hair.
My cock thickens, blood and pleasure rushing to my crotch as I kiss the only woman I’ve ever loved. The moment devours me, and I forget the horrors of the last decade in favor of letting her fill my every thought. I’m drowning in Sunday, her lips, her body tucked into mine like we were always meant to fit together.
My every-fucking-thing.
Her mouth leaves mine, and I try to hold her to me, but she wriggles free and I place her on her feet.
“That”—she points at me— “is not happening again. You bewitched me with your whole … thing!”
I arch a brow. “My thing?”
“Yes! You always had this cool, bad boy biker thing going on, but now you have that and muscles. So many muscles. Look at them!” She squeezes my bicep then slaps her hand over her mouth. “Good god, you’re rock solid. And huge. So fucking huge.”
I wet my lips and step closer to her again. “Thank you. I think.”
“No! You’re sexy. And your voice got deeper. Fuck, your voice got so deep.” She cups my face and kisses me again, and I kiss her back more desperately than before. I lie her on the bed and she frantically pulls at the buttons of my shirt until it’s open. “Oh my god, look at you.” She runs her hands down my abs, across scars and tattoos, before clutching my belt.
I hiss through my teeth. “Sunday, don’t stop kissing me.”
She groans and pulls me close, her mouth finding mine again, but only seconds pass before she rolls from underneath me off the bed.
“Evil, devil, sexy man! No! No.” She holds her hands up in front of her face and wiggles her fingers. “I am not defined by my heartbreak. It is simply an extension of me.” I stand and adjust my hard dick, and she eyes my crotch. “That thing better not have gotten bigger, too.”
I smirk, and she swipes up a pillow and throws it at me.
Chapter 5
Sunday
God, I hate that grin. That beautiful, crooked grin that made me fall in love with him all those years ago. We grew up together because our parents were friends, but for years I never liked him romantically. Until my eighteenth birthday, when my asshole of a boyfriend forgot to show up to my party.
Sitting on my front porch in a dress I’d scraped my earnings together to buy, I ranted and vowed to remove my now-ex’s spine if he ever showed his face again. Cole offered to assist me with said spine-removal and put his arm around me.
“It was still a good party, Sun.”
I’d smiled, leaning into him, angling my head to meet his eyes. “Only because you made me have a dance off with your mom.”
God, it was so cringe, but fun.
I realized in that moment that my sadness, no matter what it was over, never lasted long if Cole was with me. Maybe he realized something about me too, because he kissed me that night on the porch steps, and it wasn’t weird, or uncomfortable.
It felt … right. Like every heartbreak led to him.
