My fingers fly over the keyboard, the words flowing through me like never before. My mind is going a million miles an hour and I almost can’t keep up with it.
“Your laptop is gonna start smoking if you keep up that pace. Your fingers are going so fast I can barely watch them.”
I look up from the screen. Simon is sitting on his bed, watching me, the comic he was reading forgotten in his lap.
“I’m writing something really cathartic,” I tell him with a shrug. “The words are flowing. You’d understand if you were working on your homework.”
“Oh, don’t be like that. I’m taking a little break,” he says, sticking out his tongue at me. “Plus, I’ve been feeling weird all day.”
“Huh,” I say, taking stock of myself. “Now that you’ve said that, I’ve been feeling weird as well.”
Simon shakes out his wings and I watch as sparkly dust drifts through the air. He looks back with a frown. “Sorry,” he murmurs. “That’s fairy dust. Harmless but if you snort too much of it, it’ll make you float.”
“Like, make you high or actually float?”
Simon tilts his head. “A bit of both,” he admits with a grin. “Must be the blood moon.”
“Right,” I say with a sigh. “Fucking blood moon.”
Simon chuckles before going back to his reading. I wish I could focus again but now that I’ve realized what’s going on, it’s really fucking hard to ignore.
My skin feels too tight, like if I move a certain way, I might burst at the seams. My instincts are all over the place. I want to find my tribe, I want to ensure they’re okay and protected. I want to wrap them up in bubblewrap and keep them within arm’s distance.
On top of that, my stomach sways with emotion every time I think about Maverick. I don’t know exactly what I want or what I need but it has to do with him. I want to hold him. I want to kiss him. I want to do unspeakable things until he’s marked and claimed and mine.
Fuck.
I pull out my phone and send a message in the group chat, asking my siblings to check in. Tess says hi, reassuring me that she’s okay and she’ll be staying at Savannah’s house tonight. Blaire and Bax tell me they’re good. Mom and Dad still haven’t checked in but that’s not really surprising.
I stand up and stretch, a groan leaving my lips as I feel my muscles pull. I want to properly use these muscles. I want to run to Maverick. I want to tackle him onto his bed. I want to fuck him until he’s covered and filled and--
“You good?”
I blink, looking down at Simon who’s staring up at me. I put my hands back down, feeling my body flush.
“I think so?”
“Do you need anything?”
“Yes,” I say right away before covering my face with my hands. “Shit. Forget I said that.”
Simon chuckles. “If you need something you should go out and get it. No one’s gonna judge you, not tonight.”
“You really think so?”
“I know so, dude. A couple years ago there was a blood moon where I saw two fairies create a fairy circle together in the woods. The weird part was, they were both naked and dancing around each other like an interpretive dance. It was kinda cool but also kinda awkward because of the whole floppy dick wiggling around.”
I stare at my roommate before bursting into laughter, holding my side as it begins to ache. “By the monster gods,” I murmur, catching my breath. “You have the best stories, Simon.”
His entire face lights up. “Thanks, Thane.”
“Okay, I think I’m gonna head out.”
“Be safe! If you need anything, I’ll be staying in tonight.”
“You’re not gonna go see Wendy and Percy?” I ask as I pick up my stuff.
