“Get me one too,” I say as he reaches in there.
I don’t want that wine either. Better to play it safe.
“I’ll have wine,” Scarlett announces.
“See. I knew you’d like it.” Brody smirks as he hands me a beer.
Scarlett opens a cabinet behind her and pulls out a bottle of wine, all without looking.
She puts it down on the counter and grabs the carton from Brody’s hands. “I’ll use it for cooking.”
Brody shrugs and just keeps on grinning as he walks back into the living room.
Chapter Fourteen
Blake
I try to be good company, but this dinner was doomed from the start. Neither Amelia nor Brody can look me in the eyes. There’s something going on between Scarlett and Brody. She can’t look at him, though I have no idea why. And Bryce is trying so hard to be entertaining and to carry on the conversation it’s getting embarrassing.
“So…” The conversation has completely died down, and Scarlett looks around the table before finally setting her gaze on me. “Who’s the new girl?”
“You heard too?” Bryce asks with a smirk.
“The whole town heard!” Scarlett says.
“Wait,” Brody says, his mouth full. “About it? Or her screaming?”
“Brody!” Scarlett grumbles, pointing her fork at Penny and Chase.
He raises his hands up in apology.
“It’s no one,” I say.
Do I imagine it or did Amelia wince?
She hasn’t said one way or another whether or not she wants to keep it secret, but I can’t imagine that she’d want to talk about it in front of her son. If she wants to, she can say it was her, I don’t care, but I’m not going to throw her under the bus.
So why does she look less than grateful?
“Is it someone from that tourist group that you took hiking?” She looks at Amelia as she asks the question.
Amelia shakes her head. “They left Saturday.”
She could have covered for herself by saying yes. Why doesn’t she? Does she want them to know the truth? Why doesn’t she just tell me what she wants?
And why does being frustrated with her fill my brain with images of laying her down on my lap and spanking her ass?
Now that I’ve seen it, touched it, all I can think about is how good it would look bouncing under my palm.
My cock swells, digging painfully into my jeans.
“It’s no one important. Just forget about it.” My voice comes out a lot angrier than I meant.
Keep it together!
This time, I don’t imagine the twist in Amelia’s lips. Fuck, I want to kiss it away.
I never kissed her!
