A knock sounded against her bedroom door before it came creaking open. Sevyn didn’t even have to look up from her phone to know it was her best friends.
“Hey,” Avery called softly, taking a seat at the foot of the bed.
“Avery called after you two got off the phone yesterday and told me what happened,” Lorren revealed, occupying the empty space next to Sevyn. “You okay?”
“No,” Sevyn admitted, eyes on the ceiling. “I screwed up.”
“Yes, you did. But you can still fix this, Sev.”
“How?” she questioned, blinking back tears. “You didn’t see Dallas yesterday. He was so hurt and pissed off at me. How am I supposed to make that better?”
“Well,” Avery grabbed a pillow, placing it onto her lap. “That I don’t have an answer for. But, you can’t just give up, Sevyn. I know this has been a rollercoaster but underneath it all, you and Dallas love each other.”
“The both of you are just in your own way,” Lorren added. “And that’s why shit keeps going left. If you want to be together, you just have to let things be. Accept each other for who you are, forgive each other for your mistakes, and–”
“I want to fix this, but I don’t know if I can. He’ll never trust me.”
“I’m sure that Dallas thought the same about you. But it didn’t stop him from trying. You have to at least try, Sevyn.”
“I know,” she admitted, pondering Lorren’s words. “I figured at least that much out for myself. Everything that he and I have experienced this week has been more than worth me fighting for. I just have to get him to listen to me, and the way he looked at me yesterday before walking away, I don’t know if it’s going to happen.”
“Well,” Avery shrugged, “How did Dallas make you listen to him?”
Sevyn snorted, pulling herself into a sitting position. “His annoying ass showed up and wouldn’t leave.”
“Then your annoying ass needs to show up and not leave,” Lorren laughed. “But at least make sure you have a gift to buffer his attitude.”
It wasn’t until Lorren mentioned it did Sevyn remember the gift that Dallas had gotten her. Pushing the covers off her body, she nearly leapt out of the bed and galloped out of the door.
Taking her steps two at a time, Sevyn got to the bottom landing and cut the corner, flying into the living room. Picking the box up from the couch, she touched the elegantly wrapped box, contemplating whether she should open it or not.
Deciding to just go for it, she freed the box of its paper and opened it to reveal a small, hand-carved charm in the shape of a four-leaf clover. A lucky charm. She smiled, vividly remembering how he’d gone from referring to her as the Lucky Number Sevyn, to just Lucky. His good luck charm.
“Damn, hoe,” Avery panted, turning the corner. “You want to warn somebody before you just go sprinting off like the house is on fire?”
Whirling around, excitement spread across her face as she faced her friends. “I think I have an idea. But I’m going to need some help, and I think I have the perfect person to call.”
“I hope it ain’t Pardi’s ass,” Lorren drawled, finally making it into the living room.
Sevyn blew heavily. “I wish. I’d take dealing with his bullshit over willingly throwing myself into the lion’s den.”
She knew the potential consequences of admitting her wrongdoing, but Sevyn’s feelings outweighed them. She had to do what was necessary to get things back on track. Regardless if she had to step into fire to do so.
