But how could I live with her being with him?!
That fucking asshole.
“Davix!” Hazel screamed from down the hallway, her voice muffled through the closed door. “Davix!” Her footsteps became louder and quicker, heading in my direction. “Davix!” The door finally opened, and she barged into my office. “There you are.”
Before I could stop her, she was at my side, lifting my white shirt up.
“What are you doing?!” I exclaimed, shoving her off me.
“Checking on your wounds, like any good doctor would.”
I yanked my shirt down. The last thing I needed right now was for her to see that my wounds had healed overnight. She’d get suspicious and ask what had happened to me to get them to heal so quickly.
“They’re all healed,” she said, smirking.
“No, they’re not.”
She grinned. “Mmhmm.”
I turned back to Linda, needing to distract myself with someone other than my sister.
“So …” Hazel hummed, rocking back on her heels. “I heard you were with Ember.”
I snapped my glare to her. “Where’d you hear that rumor?”
“From a little fox.”
“Did Ember tell you that lie?” I asked through my teeth.
“No, I just told you. I heard it from a little fox.”
Great, now Hazel is resorting to talking about Ember while in front of other people.
“She can’t keep her mouth shut, huh?”
“I told you that I didn’t hear it from her, you dumbass,” she growled. “It’s obvious, isn’t it? All your wounds have completely healed since the last time I saw you. They haven’t healed that quickly for a long time.”
“Don’t start.”
“You need her.”
I looked at Silas, who she hated. “Get her out of here.”
Silas didn’t move an inch as Hazel bounced on her toes in front of me. “You do, Dav.”
“I’m trying to end this curse for our pack,” I shouted. “And you keep making it harder and fucking harder for me. Don’t you want your pups to be able to find their mates and live together with them forever? They’ll never be happy if you keep this up.”
“If you keep denying it, one of these days, you’re going to die on the battlefield.”
“I’m strong, Hazel. You know that.”
“You are, but your body is getting weaker every day that you don’t mate with her.”
“Then I’ll reject her.” The words came out quickly and calmly, so much so that I almost believed that I could. At least, I knew I had to. I knew I couldn’t let a night like last night happen again, especially not with how much my wolf had … liked it.
Even sharing Ember was better than not having her at all.
I dropped my gaze and growled under my breath. How can I think such a thing?!
