No fucking way was I going to let her mate with anyone, especially not Davix.
Chapter Thirty-Three
Davix
Alpha Rake’s howls echoed through the midnight sky. I sank my teeth into one of his warriors and ripped out his throat. That fucker was hiding somewhere in Black Hollows, and I’d fucking find him.
“Dav!” Linda said through our pack’s mindlink. “You need to rest.”
What I fucking needed was for her to stop calling me that. I had an alpha to kill and a forest to keep safe because if Ember decided to run through it again and Rake found her, I didn’t know what I’d do.
She couldn’t be hurt because—
Before I could finish the thought, I snapped out of it and killed another warrior. The others started retreating, and I sprinted after them, each step harder than the last, the blood seeping out from wounds I didn’t know I had.
At the edge of my property, I slowed to a stop and shifted back into my human, grasping at my side. Sanguine blood pooled between my fingers and onto a pile of dry, dead leaves at my feet. Matt wrapped his arm around my abdomen and turned me around.
“Let’s get you to Hazel,” he said.
“I need to kill Rake, not see a fucking doctor.”
“They’ll be back tomorrow,” Matt said. “I’ll get a scout to keep an eye on them.”
After growling, I shoved Matt off me and found my way to the pack hospital without his help. I didn’t want to see Hazel again today, not after what had happened at the Silver Moon Medical Center this morning.
“You’re hurt badly,” Hazel murmured when she saw me come in, dropping what she was doing with another warrior and running over to me. She wrapped her arm around my abdomen and ushered me to a hospital bed. “Let’s get you patched up.”
“Haze, what about me?” Silas shouted from the door, faking an injury. “I’m hurt too.”
She rolled her eyes and grabbed some bandages. “Maybe if you were a good warrior, you’d have some scars to show for it.”
A couple of warriors chuckled in response, but I glared down at my wounds, wishing they’d heal faster. They always healed fast. What the fuck was going on? We were getting close to the full moon. They should be closed by now.
“You know,” Hazel said, “a mate would help you heal faster.”
“I heal fast enough,” I said through clenched teeth.
“Oh, yeah? Is that why your wounds haven’t closed yet?”
“Hazel,” I snarled, “stop it.”
“No, I’m not going to stop it, and you know that.”
“The only woman I’m going to mate is Linda.”
“Then why haven’t you yet?”
Just as I was about to snap back with another response, I smacked my mouth closed because why hadn’t I mated her yet? Because I didn’t want to mate with her. I didn’t want to mate with anyone. Lie.
“I know you know why you haven’t mated with Linda yet.”
“Because it’s not the right time,” I said.
“Sure.”
I growled, “It’s not.”
“It will never be the right time because you’re not fated to be with her.”
