“Yes,” Alice says. “It’s just some fun. We all need to have fun sometimes. It’s no crime, is it?”
“I don’t know,” Bryce says. “Is it?”
Fuck this shit, I’m going to answer for them.
“No,” I say. “It is no crime. Let’s cut the crap, order a cab and get out of here. We’ll get another bottle of champagne for the ride.”
Neither of them say a word as I call up the app on my phone and summon a taxi.
I grin to myself as I gather up the stack of chips in the ether, because I’ve done it. I won the fucking jackpot.
If only these two knew just how fun the fun is going to be tonight, they’d run a mile. Walls come tumbling down really hard when you hit them with a sledgehammer, and I’m going to be hitting them with everything I’ve got.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
BRYCE
The rational side of my brain is screeching at me for my recklessness at this insane situation. I could put it down to the champagne, but that would be a lie. It’s Jack. He’s the intoxicating substance running rife through my veins, not the De Chante. And the intoxicating substance is making me headier by the minute. It’s also the way Jack and Alice are laughing together, soaking in the unbound joy in each other’s company…
Just like Alice and I used to, when we were teenagers.
She’s as high as a kite when we reach our destination. She leaps out onto the street, gazing up at the rich boy tower with obvious glee as Jack joins her and points up at the top floor.
“Penthouse?” she asks, and he squeezes her shoulder.
“Would you expect anything less?”
“Hardly,” she says, and the smile on her face is alive with magic and wonder.
Just like me, she’s intoxicated by the whirlwind of the man next to us. It’s not wealth, or the promise of a top-notch penthouse that has her captivated. She’s used to money, and high-end property. Her father owns a huge portfolio around the globe, after all.
I feel like a muted bystander, watching the pair of them until Jack turns to me and tugs me closer. “Come on, BT. Let’s show Soul Girl my pad.”
“Seems like I have a new nickname,” Alice says.
“Sure does suit her, doesn’t it?” Jack says to me.
“Yeah, it does,” I say.
“So, BT, shall we show Soul Girl my pad?” he asks again.
His eyes linger on mine. His grin is so suave, it gives me a flash of envy, but he stands statue still, waiting.
Waiting for my buy in.
He doesn’t need to wait for anything. He had me in the clutches of recklessness hours ago.
I can’t help but smile as he slaps my arm in humour.
“Got you good, haven’t I?” he says.
“Got me here.”
He winks. “That says it all.”
His smirk is unbridled mischief.
“Come on, guys!” Alice’s voice lights up the night.
