His mouth twitched.
“Do you want your coffee or not?”
I looked down at the carrier.
“Depends. Did you ruin it?”
He handed me one of the cups.
I pulled back the tab and looked inside.
The coffee was several shades lighter than anything I’d ever seen him drink.
I looked at him.
“You remembered?”
“You spent enough time disrespecting my coffee Monday. It wasn’t difficult.”
Something small shifted in my chest.
I ignored it.
“Vanilla?”
“And whatever unreasonable amount of cream they thought was appropriate.”
I took a sip.
It was almost exactly how I liked it.
Almost.
“Not bad.”
“That’s it?”
“What do you want, applause?”
“I remembered your coffee order after hearing it once.”
“I don’t remember giving you my coffee order.”
“You didn’t.”
I lowered the cup.
Ellis was already walking toward the café table.
I followed him with my eyes.
That was somehow worse.
He set his camera bag down and started unzipping it like he hadn’t just admitted he’d paid enough attention Monday to figure out how I took my coffee.
I took another sip.
“Still needs more creamer.”
