Jacob looked at her. “She didn’t ask.”
“I was telling her.”
Mila gave him a satisfied look.
Jacob sighed.
I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing.
“Come see my picture,” Mila told him.
“What picture?”
“The one I made for Miss Luna.”
“It’s still up?” Ellis asked.
I looked at him. “Of course it is.”
Mila beamed before grabbing Jacob by the hand.
“Come on.”
“I can walk by myself.”
“I know.”
She pulled him anyway.
Tasha watched the two of them head toward the register before looking around the bookstore.
“This is really nice.”
“Thank you.”
“No, I mean it. Ellis told me about the first Open Mic, but I couldn’t really picture everything.”
I glanced at him. “You told her about the first one too?”
Tasha laughed. “Girl.”
Ellis sighed.
I looked between them. “What?”
“Nothing,” he said.
His sister had a completely different answer.
“This man has been talking about this bookstore since the first time he photographed here.”
“I have not.”
“You have.”
“Tasha.”
“First it was the event. Then the pictures. Then something Mila did when y’all came back. Then Luna recommended this book. Luna said this about my coffee. Luna’s doing another event.”
