Easier.
I glanced around at everything we’d moved since I got there.
“You asked me.”
Her eyes came back to mine.
“I did.”
“Why?”
For the first time since the conversation started, she looked uncomfortable. Not upset exactly, but like I caught her saying more than she meant to.
“I don’t know.”
I waited.
Luna sighed.
“I thought you wouldn’t mind.”
Four simple words.
Still, the words settled heavily in my chest
I could tell her I wasn’t keeping track, that none of this was going to show up in some future argument she didn’t even know we were going to have.
But saying that felt like asking her to trust something she hadn’t had enough time to see for herself.
So I didn’t.
I nodded toward the box beside her.
“What about those?”
She followed my gaze.
“Those are for the giveaway table.”
I picked up the box.
“By the front?”
“Yeah.”
I carried it over and set it where she pointed.
When I turned around, she was standing with her hands on her hips, looking over everything we’d done.
“Actually...”
I waited.
“Can you move that stack of chairs closer to the wall? Just so there’s a little more room to walk through here.”
“Yeah.”
That was all she had to say. I didn’t ask for an explanation before I moved the chairs. When I looked back, Luna had already gone back to sorting books.
