“Does that turn you off, us helping people?” I asked.

“No. It’s where I wanted EGS to go, but Pete overruled me constantly,” Lynnie admitted.

“I’m in charge. If I’m incapacitated, responsibility falls to Reaver, and then Jack.”

I shot Haunt a startled look.

He continued, “You’ve got the experience, Jack. We’ve seen some of the things you’ve done with GSI, and Callie sent me some classified recordings. You’re third in line,” Haunt stated.

A smile crossed my lips. I’d not expected acceptance so quickly. “Thanks.”

“I need you three to check the footage with Gizmo and watch the cameras. Can you do that? Honestly, primarily I wanted editors, and you girls are more investigators. But maybe we can all share turns editing?” Haunt looked to his brothers, who nodded.

“Hell, take my role completely. I’m happy to edit.” Suga grinned.

“Not happening.” Haunt slapped him on the back, and Suga scowled.

I understood how they felt. For me, being in front of a camera was natural; for them, it wasn’t. They wanted to help people and hunt the paranormal, and having their own TV series got them noticed and funding. It was the downside of what we did as a profession. People didn’t pay for our help. Most hunters held a day job; I’d been lucky not to have one. The Spirit Chasers were the same.

“Let’s turn in, we’ll catch some sleep, and we’ll meet back here at five,” Haunt suggested.

“We took turns driving so we’re not too tired. We’ll start searching through the footage for you,” Cammie stated.

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah. Not a problem,” Jayna replied.

“Thanks. Make certain to get receipts for petrol and everything; we’ll cover your costs,” Haunt said as I yawned. I followed everyone to the SUVs, tired but content. Bed was calling me.

I shook my head. “We’d probably have missed this.”

Cammie was showing me five clips they’d discovered so far. The first was the banners in the Great Hall blowing, yet nothing else moved. The second was a door opening and closing, but nobody was there. Next, a chair slid on its own in the Pink Bedroom, and then, in the King Edward Room, the chandelier began moving and stopped abruptly. Finally, we caught a human-shaped mist in the King James Drawing Room.

“Nice catch,” Reaver agreed as he ate breakfast.

“We got through half the footage. What are you investigating tonight?” Cammie asked.

“The original dungeon and the King Edward Room. I’ll start with the dungeon,” I said, turning to me.

“No probs,” Jack replied.

“Yes. We gotta understand what’s down there. Ghoul, you’re with me, if possible.” I turned to Ghoul, who nodded.

“Yeah. Not a problem. Are you looking for anything in particular?” Ghoul asked.

“More to rule something out. I checked in with Evie earlier about his séance down there. It’s a total legend, and she believes it happened, but there is no record of it. I want to confirm that whatever was down there didn’t escape and isn’t the current entity,” I replied.

“In that case, tool up,” Lucky interrupted.

“Give us what you got, bro. I’ve got a bad feeling about this,” I stated.

“Should you be going down there, then?” Lynnie asked.

“We gotta rule it out. If this spirit has escaped, at least we know,” Reaver agreed.

“Stay safe,” Jack said.
