“I messed up. I sent him our marriage certificate.”

Her eyes widen.

“I’m sorry. I wasn’t going to keep us a secret from him or anyone.”

“I wish you hadn’t done that,” she says quietly, wrapping her arms around herself.

“What are you going to do?” My heart tightens.

“I don’t know. I need to speak to him alone, please.”

I move closer and pull her into my arms.

“Before you go, there are three things you need to know.”

“Okay.”

“First, you’re not alone. You have me, and you have people here who accept you.”

“Second, I married you because I love you. I will love you until the day I die. I didn’t just want passion. I want a life with you. Something real. Something I didn’t think I could have until I saw you sleep that first night.”

“And third?”

“I will go to war for you, against anybody, and if Jonah tries to annul our marriage, I will declare war on him.” My tone is quiet but venomous. She steps back and gazes at me.

“Promise me you won’t fight my brother.” Her voice is stern.

“I cannot promise not to fight him, sprinkles, if he tries to take you from me. I can only promise not to fight him if he accepts us.” Her brows tighten and I do not waver.

“What I do is up to me, and me alone. I will go and speak to him now,” she says. She tries to get past me, and I pull her back into a deep kiss, our tongues swirling in a fierce kiss of every fiery emotion we are both experiencing. She moans and I break the kiss.

“I love you, Jola.”

She cups my face and smiles. “I know, and I love you too, Mr. Darcy.”

I smile and smack her ass, opening the door for her. Hand in hand, we walk to the living room.

“You can use my office,” I say to Jonah. He gives me a stern look as he follows her to my office.

“Are you good?” Ice asks.

“No, I am not. All I know is I will not give her up without a fight,” I mutter.

“I think he knows that as well. You both love her, though a different kind of love, but love all the same. And unfortunately, you have both spent years hating each other only to now have one special woman you both love deeply in common.” I nod and down the drink I had just poured. “She is smart, and I think she will reconcile you two.”

“I hope so,” I answer, taking a seat. Ice joins me and starts to talk about the day and some information. I hear him, but my eyes are fixed on the door. He knows I am not fully listening, but he keeps talking anyway.

Chapter seventy-four

Lexi/ Jola

We enter Bruce’s office and close the door. We are both quiet, and it’s weird. My brother and I have always talked. This is the first time neither one of us is speaking. I also know it’s time I put on my big girl pants and talk to him about Bruce and I and make an irrefutable case for us.

“I’m sorry,” I say.

“For?” he asks, his voice low with a rumble of anger.

“I asked him to marry me, though I was drunk, but I asked him.”
