“He’s my husband, and I must avoid him at all costs for my safety and my children’s safety.”
She gasps with alert eyes. “Was he bad to you?” her voice quivers, and I chuckle.
“No, Naseer loves me, and I’ll always love him. However, we have an invisible and powerful force that stands between us, and because of that force, I must stay away from him.”
“How do you plan to do that? He doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy that would walk away.”
I laugh. “You’re right, that’s not Naseer’s style. He’s very persistent. I’ll try my best as much as possible till we can complete the project and leave Rhanaz.”
She nods. “I’ll try my best to keep him from you.”
I nod.
“The twins … Mariam, are they his?”
I nod again.
“Does he know?”
I shake my head as I let out a breathy sigh. “He doesn’t know, and I would like it to stay that way.”
“I’m sorry I mentioned them earlier.”
“It’s okay, you didn’t know, and I made up a story to him that he bought.”
“Your office box was delivered today. I’ll empty out the office items and take the pictures of you and the twins to your driver. You can keep them at home because one look at Micah’s picture, he would know.”
“Yes, Mira is his sister’s look-alike as well.”
“Just your luck.” She smirks, and I laugh. “Not to worry, I got you, and I won’t mention it to anyone.”
“Thanks, Lucy.”
She gets up and comes to hug me before leaving.
Since I can’t get any coding work done today. I plan out my week and set goals based on my discussion with Orion. While planning, the head of the marketing team stops by to welcome me and introduce herself since I wasn’t here last week when my team got to meet everyone.
Just as I was getting back into the flow, the administrative head, HR head, and design team also stopped by to welcome me and introduce themselves. I greet them and thank them for their warm welcome.
As I’m wrapping up after all the pleasantries, Lucy returns. “Mariam, I just received an office memo that avocado would no longer be served in the building, and no one is to bring avocado into the building. Only Nitrile gloves are allowed now.”
My eyes widen in shock. “Did they say why?”
“No, just the new order from the partners, and all three signed the memo.”
I nod.
“On the good side, you won’t have to worry.”
“Yeah, he came to ask if I was okay, and I told him you got my food, so I was fine. How are people reacting to the memo?”
“Nothing yet, but I’ll keep my ears out and let you know. Most are just going to think it’s because Prince Naseer is here, they just might turn the anger to him. The staff here love their avocado.”
“I bet they do, as long as they don’t know the real reason the memo was made. I’ll be quiet.” She zips her mouth too and we both laugh.
“Thanks, Lucy.”
She nods and leaves.
