“Anything.”
“We take the ‘obey’ part out of the vows.”
I bark out a laugh and kiss her again. “Deal.”
Epilogue
Sage
Two months ago my world collapsed around me. Everything I fought so hard to protect was almost ripped away from me. It was the fear of losing the person I love the most that made me realize I can’t control everything.
I tried.
I couldn’t protect her from everything, but I made damn sure her biggest threat was eliminated.
Both times he took her from me, I felt helpless. Watching the videos of her being raped were nothing compared to being right in front of her while he plunged that knife into her stomach.
But I kept my promise to her.
She no longer has to live in fear.
And I set her free so she can fly again.
We did compromise on one thing though. She knew she was pregnant when she ran after Victor into that kitchen, and I wasn’t about to risk her life or my daughter’s anymore.
While she’s pregnant, Liv will be working with the K-9 unit to help train the dogs. It was the only request I asked from her. I needed reassurance that they would both be safe.
I will be returning to the squad as soon as our babymoon is over. Roberts threatened me again with taking a vacation, but he honestly didn’t have to. After this past year, we needed this more than anything.
We needed to breathe.
Ava is already preparing for our return and loving every second of wedding planning. Liv let her take complete control so we can just enjoy our two-week vacation in peace.
And when we get home, she will finally be my wife.
The salty air blows through the open doors that lead onto the teak deck. Waves crash along the shore, making the white sand shimmer. I’ve never seen water so clear before. But right now it’s dark, waiting for the sun to rise.
“OH MY GOD!”
I turn away from my tropical view to see Liv wide-eyed on the couch. She sits up straight and takes another bite of her peanut butter sandwich. Her second one of the morning.
“What?” I walk toward her.
“Dorian made a thirst trap account!” she mumbles around her food. She holds her phone out to me, and I take it from her.
Scrolling through his posts, he’s wearing his bike helmet in all of them. Some shirtless, showing off his abs and flexing. Most of them he’s sitting on his bike, but there are a few with just him in the frame.
I stop scrolling when the newest one catches my attention and I bring it closer to my face.
“That motherfucker,” I mutter and shove the phone in Liv’s direction. “That’s our couch!”
She takes it from me and starts cackling.
I pick up my phone from the coffee table and send him a text.
Listen, asshole. You’re supposed to be house sitting. Not taking provocative pictures in MY house. On MY furniture.
I glare at the phone screen waiting for his reply. Liv places her hand on mine and pushes it down.
