“What look?”
He smiled. “The one you get when someone matters.”
I followed his gaze across the room.
Max stood near the bar, and he was staring at me.
Alex chuckled. “Yeah, that one.” He nudged my shoulder. “You should probably go stand next to him before he pretends he wasn’t looking for you.”
I squeezed his arm. “Thanks.”
“For what?”
“For the unsolicited relationship analysis.”
Alex grinned. “Anytime.”
Then I saw Leo Hart start talking to Max and Callum, and I decided to hang back and wait.
Dom talk.
Max
“You do know you’re the talk of the club, don’t you?” Callum remarked.
I feigned ignorance. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“What have I missed?” Leo asked.
“Only a spectacular scene involving a fuck machine.” Callum snorted. “Which it seems everyone now wants to use.” He peered at me. “You obviously enjoyed it. You haven’t stopped smiling since you walked through the door. It’s unsettling.”
I laughed. “Then you’d better get used to it.”
“And speaking of unsettling…” Leo drank from his glass of water. “I was at Secrets last week.”
I frowned. “Problems?”
“Just something that doesn’t happen very often. You run checks on Doms who want to join, don’t you?”
Callum nodded. “The usual stuff, just to make sure we’re not inviting trouble to walk through our doors.”
Leo nodded. “Eli and Jarod do the same.” He smiled. “I taught them well. Anyway, last week they refused someone’s application to join.”
I arched my eyebrows. “Oh?”
“It was mostly an attitude problem. The applicant in question didn’t respond well to being corrected.” He snorted. “He also treated staff as if they were accessories.”
“Yeah, not a good sign,” Callum muttered.
“Eli and Jarod decided he wasn’t aligned with the club ethos, so they politely declined his application.”
I chuckled. “His name wasn’t Grant Hawthorne, was it?” I joked.
Leo blinked, and Callum went very still.
“As a matter of fact, it was.” Leo regarded me with interest.
Callum huffed. “He was here last night. He must be doing the rounds of all the clubs.”
