When The Fair Goes Dark

“Wait, that’s what I was going to say.” I say to her.

Her head tilts back as she laughs, and I swear the sky got brighter.

“Well thank you. But, for real girl. You look like you could be a model or something.”

Was she kidding?

I was too skinny with no boobs, and long, straggly hair. I didn’t care to look in the mirror much, because I didn’t think I was much to look at.

“Thank you. But, have you seen yourself? You look amazing.” I flushed out.

She grins at me again before she sticks out her hand. Rings covered her fingers.

“I’m Willow.”

I smile as I put my hand in hers. My hand felt so bare against hers.

“I’m Raven.”

“Nice to meet you.” she says as we drop our hands. “Where are you headed?”

I look around before answering her.

“I was looking for a library or a bookstore.”

Her eyes lit up.

“Well, that is perfect because I work at the local one. That’s actually where I’m going.”

She grabs my arm into hers. “Let’s go, I’ll show you.”

I follow her as we walk down the sidewalk.

She was about three inches taller than me, and her legs were much longer than my short ones, so I felt like I was fast walking.

We keep walking until we reach a shop that was on the corner, named Between the Pages.

What a cute, and literal name.

Willow walks in, and the overheard chime sounds out.

“Hey Willow.” A voice calls out as we go further inside.

It was so pretty. Dark walls, bookshelves lining all the walls. There were tables and couches everywhere.

It was dark and moody and I loved it.

“Good morning Lindy.” Willow says as we approach the register where a lady was standing.

She had dark hair, pulled back in a messy bun with two pencils sticking out of it. A brown cardigan and a black dress, and she looked so pretty.

“Who do we have here?” she says as I approach.

Willow turns to me. “This is Raven.”

She pulls down her glasses as she looks at me. “Well, you sure are pretty Miss Raven.”

A blush covers my skin as I couldn’t help but grin at the compliment. “Thank you ma’am.”
