“Okay, we will order the pizza in about an hour then, okay?”
“Yeah that’s fine.” I say as I walk to my little brother that has already got his feet on the couch and is relaxing.
“Bub, I’ll be back soon.” I give him a kiss on his head.
“Okay, love you.”
“Love you more.” I say and leave.
“Wait!” My dad yelled at me as I was about to close the door.
Holding the door open, I wait for him as he rushes away for a second.
He comes back holding a set of keys.
“You got your license, right?”
I nod my head as I grab my wallet from my pocket.
“Here. Take this one. I’ve been working on it the past year.”
This one?
“Come on.” he says as he walks towards the garage door next to us.
He opens it, and turns on the light.
My mouth drops open.
A red Chevrolet Corvette sits in the garage staring at me.
What is this?
My father walks down the rest of the steps, and turns towards me.
“Come on Raven.”
My heart stutters as I try not to think about what this means.
He did not get me a car.
“What is this?”
He flicks the keys up in the air, and I had to catch them.
“Yours.”
No fucking way.
I look down at the keys in my palm, burning.
“What do you mean, mine?”
He grins and for the first time since our family was split apart, I saw my dad.
“It means, it’s yours.” he says. “Well, if you want it of course.”
My heart feels heavy like lead, and my eyes well with tears.
