“Sounds good.” I say to him.
“Okay, well we can just order in tonight, if you want. Maybe watch a scary movie you like?”
Is it weird to be shocked that he knows so much about me? I mean, he was my father, but the past year, he’s been a stranger. Doing everything that I didn’t think the man I called my dad would do.
I was coming back next year, so I decided maybe I needed to make some kind of effort.
“Sounds fun to me.” I say.
His face smiles. “Perfect. I’ll order around say, seven?”
“Yep.”
“Perfect. See you down there later.”
“Okay.”
He closes the door and I flop back on the bed on an exhale.
I looked over at the clock and see I have about three hours before we were going to watch a movie.
Standing up, I head to take a shower.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I look over myself.
My brown hair seemed dull. I picked it up and played with it as I think it over. I always did tell my mom I wanted to go lighter. Like white blonde. Or maybe just some pieces of blonde.
I usually do nothing with it, but I wanted a change.
Maybe some layers?
I play with the strands again.
I’ll just wait until I get home to decide.
I sigh and plop my hair in a bun, and hop in the shower.

The end credits for Scream 5 just started, and we all sit back on the couch.
That was one of the best ones, and I’m a sucker for the original. The change was good, and I couldn’t wait to see what was next in store.
“That was scary!” Ryan says from beside me, his pillow still covering his face.
I laugh and poke at him as I remove the pillow.
“It wasn’t that scary bub.”
“Says you. People in masks are scary.”
A flash of a skull mask crosses my mind.
“They sure are.” I say back, and relax on the couch.
“Well, that certainly was something.” Marie says as she lifts a glass of wine to her lips.
I look at her and smile and nod.
