When The Fair Goes Dark

An arm latches onto mine as I finished surveying my surroundings.

“Soo what do you think?” Willow says, a huge smile on her face and her eyes glittering.

I couldn’t keep the awe out of my voice. “It’s beautiful.”

“I know right! Just wait to see it at night, if you decide to stay.”

I just nod, because I knew that was going to be impossible.

The sun was setting, and the ray of colors that decorated the sky matched perfectly with the lights overhead.

“Come on, we have to go get our tickets for the rides.”

We all walk over and stand in the line.

I only had an extra $20.00 from what my dad gave me, so I didn’t know how many ride that was going to get me.

Still standing, I glanced around the area, through the sea of people.

And I caught eyes with someone that was already looking at me.

Dark, crisp eyes stared at me from across the way.

The person attached to those eyes was standing near a tent, leaned on the side of it.

Black hair.

Tall.

Piercing eyes.

An unsettling glint in his gaze that had tingles racing up my spine.

In interest or fear, I didn’t know.

Trying to see more of him, I noticed he was wearing a striped uniform like the other employees were.

His gaze moved away from mine, and he averted his attention to someone right next to him.

I moved my head around to try and see who got his attention, and saw a similar looking guy talking to him now.

For some reason, I felt annoyed that he took his attention away from me. I don’t know why, because that guy was a stranger.

“Rave.” I hear my name being called, snapping me away from the guys.

“Yeah?” I answer back distracted.

“Ready to get your tickets?” Willow asks me when I realize there was a huge gap between me and the others now.

I glanced back over to where I was looking to see it was now empty.

“Yeah, sorry.” I say and walk to the stand.

“We just got like $10.00 worth since the fair part closes soon.” Willow tells me as I pull out the $20.

Perfect.

The cashier hands over the tickets for the rides and we head out to the games and rides part.
