“Yeah.” He nods, tugging another shirt over his head. “Realized as sad as I was that my family was dead, they would be sadder to see what I was doing to myself.”
“Were you close to your sister?”
“She was my biggest fan,” he replies softly. “If only so one day I could find her a rock star husband.”
“Who would you have picked for her?”
“Yet to meet a guy in the scene who would’ve been worthy of her.”
“I wish I had a brother like you.” I laugh. “I feel so good right now.” I lean back.
“What are you on?”
“Oxy and coke.”
“Dangerous mix.”
“What’s the worst mixture you’ve done?”
“A speedball.”
“What was that like?”
“Too good.” He sighs. “Then really awful the next morning.”
“Wyatt?”
“Yes?” he replies, standing over me now.
“I think if we met while you were using, we would’ve died together.”
“No,” he says, bending down and taking my hand as he tugs me to my feet. “I’d never let you die.”
I wrap my arms around him. “You like me.” I grin at him.
“You are going to ruin my life.”
“And yet you still like me.”
“I might be insane,” he whispers, pushing some of my hair out of my face. “You need to get your shit together. We have a show to play.” He sighs, taking my hands from around his neck. “I’ll see you out there.”
I sink back to the floor for a moment.
He’s right—I do need to get my shit together so I can play tonight.
But he does like me.
And unfortunately for me, I like him, too.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
Tuesday manages to put on a great show despite how messed up she is. After, she strolls over to the bar and I head to the dressing room. Quinn and David are in there packing up their shit.
“Nice set,” David says. “Even with Tuesday all messed up.”
“She is really on a bender tonight.” Quinn sighs. “Help me drag her back to the bus later?” Quinn asks with a pleading look.
“Fine,” I groan.
