“I’ll let you know,” Tuesday says.
“See you later, Wyatt. Glad to have you back.”
“Yeah. See you later.” I nod.
I didn’t realize how much time passed. I’ve been so spaced out in my own head.
I don’t know why she chose me. I don’t know how she can be in the same room as me after everything. She may have said she forgave me, but this is a lot. Being around me has got to hurt.
She sits beside me still, twirling a strand of hair in her finger. She files through the notebook in front of her.
“Uh. Thanks,” I say.
“For?” She looks up at me.
“This. You didn’t need to make me part of your—”
“I couldn’t risk you playing for someone else.” She smiles. “We sound too good together.”
“Are you still going to dest—”
“No. Don’t need to now,” she cuts me off with a smile.
“So, have you been working on anything?” I ask after what feels like an awkward moment of silence, even as she scribbles away on the notebook in front of her.
“Well, I found this,” she says softly. She closes the notebook and slides it over to me. I recognize it immediately. It’s mine. The one I was working on for her. “It had a few good ideas in it.”
“I was wondering where that ended up.” I laugh, grabbing it and flipping it open. I look over the pages to see baby blue pen markings, little notes left by her.
“I made a few notes. I hope that’s okay.” She side-eyes me.
“They’re your songs, so it’s fine.”
“Our songs,” she whispers.
“I don’t care who they belong to anymore.”
“No?” She looks up at me. “Why not?”
“I’m just glad you’re okay.” My voice cracks.
“I’m not okay. Not fully. But I’m getting there.”
“That’s good.” I nod.
“Because of you,” she says, turning towards me.
“No.” I shake my head. “No. You’re doing it, Tues. I just—”
“Made it possible.” She leans forward. “Wyatt, I would’ve never gotten out of his control if you didn’t—”
“Almost kill him.” I laugh, wiping at my eyes. “Fuck. I’m so sorry I did that in front of you. And before—”
“Hey, I already said I forgave you.”
“You shouldn’t. What I did was…”
“Wyatt. It’s okay.”
