A few more pumps and he came undone. He let out a throaty groan and his whole body convulsed. With one hand, he blindly reached to where our bodies were connected and rubbed my clit until he sent me into another orgasm.
After, we held each other, panting into each other’s mouths.
Jasper lifted himself to his elbow. “Was that good for you?”
I pulled him back down, settling his head at the hollow of my throat. “It was wonderful. Now rest. You earned it.”

We didn’t talk much in between rounds of sex. We dozed, ate and drank, but didn’t talk other than to moan each other’s names. It was better that way; what was there to talk about?
After night had fallen and we were both sated, Jasper fell asleep. My body ached from the exertion, but I knew Freta would be worried about me. I cleaned myself up as best as I could and dressed before slipping out to the library.
Despite how intensely I’d wanted him, as I straightened in the stacks, I had to stop and lean against the walls. Had I really just done that? Had I really just had sex with a man who could get me killed in more ways than one? It seemed like such an impossible dream.
I pushed away the from the wall and headed toward the passage that led to the dorms. But before I got there, Gareth rounded the shelf just ahead of me. He held a magical light in one hand, and when he saw me, he froze. I froze back, holding my breath.
When he came at me, I tried to back away, but he jumped forward and grabbed me. Before I knew it, he’d dragged me behind a nearby statue and shoved me against the wall.
“What the fuck are you doing?” he snarled. His nostrils widened and his green eyes narrowed dangerously. “Please don’t say you let Jasper fuck you.”
Despite trying to clean myself, I still smelled like him. Heat rushed to my cheeks.
Gareth shook me. When I tried to shove him off, he grabbed both of my wrists and pinned them to the wall, then used his bulk to push the rest of me against it. Heat swept through me, my body already preparing itself for another round.
Not that Gareth was interested in that.
“Do you have any idea what will happen to Jasper if this comes out?” he whispered furiously. “Huh? Or do you know, and you’re hoping to get him punished? Think again; if you tell anyone, they’ll kill you first.”
“I know.”
Gareth paused, uncertain. I made my body relax, breathing slowly. He wasn’t threatening me for the fun of it. He was worried about Jasper. Despite everything, I felt touched. With all the shit that had happened to him, at least he had someone on his side.
“He told me what would happen if we were caught. I don’t care. If anyone is going to be executed for giving Jasper the chance to have sex, it should be me. No family. Doomed anyway. So what difference does it make?” My voice cracked, and I swallowed hard. Do NOT start crying!
Gareth released me and stepped back. He searched my face, then ran a hand through his dark hair. “Who are you really? How did you get them under your spell? What did you do?”
That draw toward him was back. The same draw that pulled me to Jasper tonight was now tugging me to Gareth. If he did want to have sex, I wouldn’t stop him. I wanted him on a primal level that was different from what I felt for Seb and Jasper. “You’re jealous and angry. Angry that some half-fae who was raised without knowledge of the fae world has your interest. Just some girl with a dead mother and an imprisoned father.”
Gareth shook his head. “You’re lying. You’re only saying your mother’s dead because you know mine is. And you’re trying to force some sort of connection. It won’t work.”
“Look up my records. Seb and Jasper both have already.”
“A shape-thief killed my mother. Did you know that?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous.
I nodded. I couldn’t remember if I’d heard it somewhere before, but it felt like something I already knew.
“And you know that I didn’t have to come to the Academy. I’ve already proven myself as the most powerful fae of the generation.”
I nodded again.
Gareth wrapped his hand around my neck and he stepped in closer again. So close I felt the heat radiating from him. “Then you know. If you hurt my friends, I will kill you. Slowly. Painfully,” he whispered, tightening his hold ever so slightly. “And I am too important, too powerful, for them to punish over a nobody like you. So don’t hurt them.”
Then he bent as though he was going to kiss me. I lifted my face toward him, and he froze. His breath wafted on my skin, smelling of alcohol. How much had he drunk?
Gareth released me. He stepped back, shaking his head. “Get out of here. Go shower before someone else finds you.”
“I don’t want to hurt them. I don’t know why this is … but I don’t want to hurt them.”
