We both looked over, and Taina laughed.

“Wassup, boo?”

“I like it.”

Taina’s face lit up. “Really?”

He nodded.

“Alright,” she said, doing her best not to make a big deal when it, in fact, was.

“Hold it down, bitch,” I whispered, noticing she was tearing up.

“Let me know if you want more.”

Again, he nodded and went back to eating. Turning in my seat, I gave her a thumbs up. I went to comment on her staring at him when my phone rang. It was Mr. Lonnie calling from the main lobby.

“Hey, Mr. Lonnie,” I answered on speaker.

“Good evening, Ms. Mitchell. Looks like you have another flower arrangement down here.”

Rolling my eyes, I sighed. “You can throw them away. Thank you.”

Taina’s eyes got big as she swallowed her food.

“Bitch…”

I put my finger up to my mouth, signaling for her to hush.

“Are you sure, Ms. Mitchell? These look different from the other arrangement.”

“Yes, I’m…”

“Wait, Jai’ana. You don’t even know who they’re from,” Taina whispered.

I covered the phone with my hand. “Yes, I do. They’re from Morgan.”

“How you know?”

“’Cause I didn’t say anything about the last bouquet, and you know her ass is persistent.”

Removing my hand from the speaker, I went to talk again, and Taina interrupted me.

“Mr. Lonnie, it’s Taina. You keep them flowers right where they are. I’ll be right down to get them.” She reached over and ended the call before I could say anything else.

“Seriously, T? Why would you do that?”

“Because you ‘bout to piss me off. You don’t know who them damn flowers from.”

“Who else would be sending me flowers besides Morgan, Taina?”

She pursed her lips and gave me a look.

I shook my head, catching on immediately.

“Girl, please.”

“Hmm. We ‘bout to find out. I got a good feeling.”
