“You coming?” Enzo asked, holding the doors open.
“Don’t look like it’s enough room for us.”
Jai’ana laughed lightly. “I guess not. Nice to meet y’all.”
“You too, Ms. Jai,” Key said all lively and shit.
“You can call me Jai’ana.”
“Alright, Ms. Jai’ana, gworl.”
“Man, let the doors close, Ezzy.”
The doors shut, and I turned to Jai’ana.
“So…” She lifted a brow. “You gon’ press for the next one, or we gon’ stand here and look at each other all night?”
“I don’t mind.”
“Mind what?”
“Standing here and lookin’ at you all night.”
She smirked, walking over to press the button. “You are so corny.”
“Yet you always smiling when I talk. Where you headed this late?”
“To get me some pizza. The wait was too long on DoorDash.”
“Cheese?”
“A good listener.”
“I am. Where the pizza shop at?”
“Down the block.”
The elevator dinged, and the doors opened.
“Aight. Let’s go.”
She didn’t move.
“Go where?”
“To the pizza shop. I haven’t eaten.”
Her lips twitched before she broke out into another smile.
“Usually when people make plans and someone tags along, it’s because they’re invited.”
“Or it’s because the planner wants company and doesn’t know it. Come on before this elevator start beeping, girl.”
Shaking her head, she stepped on and pressed her back against the wall.
My phone chimed in my hand as the elevator doors closed. It was a text from Nori.
Nori: I almost told you to go to hell for leaving me waiting so long for a response, but I need that. Text me when you’re on your way.
