“Y’all done?” Aura spoke up again.

Pryce groaned, with his hand on his head. “Here this nigga go.”

“Yeah, here I go. Y’all shouldn’t have interrupted me with this nigga teacher crush.”

“Aye, stop speaking on me, dawg.”

“Whatever, back to my birthday. If niggas don’t plan nothin’, I’ll plan my own shit. It’ll just be me and my lady, and y’all niggas ain’t invited.”

“Ahhh, shut yo’ crybaby ass up,” Pryce chastised, picking up another pillow.

“Throw that shit and I’ma beat yo’ ass,” Enzo threatened. “Y’all ODing now.”

Pryce laughed, placing the pillow back down and rubbing it gently.

Knowing Amil had been lowkey losing her mind planning this surprise party, the last thing we needed was Aura booking a last-minute flight to the Maldives.

“Aye, how ‘bout you just leave that weekend open and see what happens?” I suggested, not prepared for the three sets of eyes that landed on me.

Aura nodded, his slow grin telling me that I’d said too much again. “So, you sayin’ just be spontaneous and wait for something to happen?”

“Why you keep turning everything into a damn question?”

“’Cause you keep answering them.” Enzo shook his head. Picking up the remote, he turned the TV up. “Watch the game ‘fore I put y’all asses out.”

I turned my head, opting out of saying anything else. Between Aura trying to get birthday information out of me and Tay trying to convince everyone that I was in love with Ms. Jai, I was exercising my right to shut the fuck up.

Later that evening, me, Pryce, Enzo, and Tay were summoned to Amil’s place. Almost certain that one of them had snitched on me about almost fucking up the surprise, I decided to take my time getting there. Shit, I was never gonna show up on time to get cussed out.

By the time I stepped off the elevator and made it down the hall to her door, I was twenty minutes late. I had purposely ignored every message sent to me inquiring about where I was and what time I’d be there. Ringing the bell, I stepped back, bracing myself for whatever. Amil had cameras and her doorman was on his job, so I knew she knew it was me before she came to the door. When it swung open, Key was on the other side of it.

“I’m gon’ beat yo’ muthafuckin’ ass,” she said, sounding like Diamond from The Players Club.

I snickered, mushing her head, as I walked around her inside the house. “Move, big head.”

“Nice of you to join us finally,” Amil greeted from the dining room. “It’s a good thing I didn’t need you for anything important.”

“See, that’s why I took my time.”

“Nah, you took your time ‘cause you scary, nigga. You knew she was gon’ get on yo’ ass,” Pryce said, laid out on another couch that didn’t belong to him.

Tay and Enzo were present as well, both occupied with their phones.

I pointed to Pryce. “I knew it was gon’ be yo’ ass to snitch.”

He shrugged. “You the one who almost spilled the beans in front of three witnesses.”

“Almost, nigga. That don’t even count.”

“It does when Aura is already suspicious,” Key chimed in, hitting me upside the head, as she walked past me and into the dining room.

“Whatever. What you need me for, Milz?”

“Okay, y’all come here.” She waved us over to the dining table where she had papers, her iPad, and place cards.

“You planning a wedding or a birthday party?” Tay asked.

“And y’all say I do the most,” Key commented.
