Damn him.
I blink hard.
“You couldn’t have said that before I packed?”
“No.”
A laugh breaks through the pressure in my chest.
“Why?”
“Watching you get pissed is fun.”
I shove him.
He doesn’t move.
“God, I hate you.”
His mouth curves. “No, you don’t.”
“No.”
I grab his shirt and pull him closer.
“I really don’t.”
His mouth finds mine.
The kiss isn’t careful. Nothing with Caleb ever is. His hand closes around my waist and pulls me against him, and all the fear I’ve been carrying about tomorrow disappears beneath the familiar weight of him.
When he finally lifts his head, I’m breathless.
“So I’m not leaving?”
His eyebrow lifts.
“Didn’t say that.”
My stomach drops.
He smiles. “You’re going to Portland for a few weeks.”
“You bastard.”
“Pack your apartment.”
“And then?”
His hand tightens around my waist. “You come home.”
Home.
I kiss him again before he can see what that word does to me.
Later that night, I’m standing in The Devil’s Brew while Sally tries to convince me something suspicious isn’t happening. Sally insisted on throwing me a little going away party before my flight tomorrow.
“Tell me what’s going on.” I ask her again.
