I swallowed back tears. “Whoever he is, wherever he is, I hope he’s safe.”

“I do, too, love. The dean is looking for him. He’ll let us know once he hears something. He said with the research we retrieved, he may be able to pair up a lot of the descendants with their Fallen parents.”

“Some of the Fallen may not want to know their offspring.”

“True. This is why he’s going to contact the Fallen before telling the descendants. Those who want to know of their offspring will. Those who don’t, won’t be forced to. The descendants are better off without those Fallen in their lives anyway.”

“You’re right. Though it would be nice to know who sired me, I’d also like to know who my mother was. She didn’t choose to leave me. She had no choice.”

“Alyk is looking into that also.”

“Great.” I went silent. So did Vayn. A few minutes ticked by. Unable to stand the silence any longer, I asked, “What else do you want to talk about?”

“That’s it. What do you want to talk about?”

“Let’s talk about...” Before I could mention my plan to find Tia, my stomach growled.

“Hungry?” he asked. “I can prepare you something.”

“That’s okay. I haven’t been able to eat much lately.”

“If you don’t like the food in the refrigerator, I can order something from Stake-Out.”

“It’s not the food. It’s me. Everything tastes bland. I think something is wrong with me.”

Within a split second, he had me pinned to the mattress, peering down at me.

“Don’t tell me you haven’t eaten since I’ve been gone. Do you still feel like you have the drugs in your system?” he asked, eyes roaming over my face as if my appearance would reveal I had drugs in my system.

This mate of mine was too cute when he went into protective mode. When he cocked his head to the side, I caught a glimpse of the vein at his neck. I swallowed. My gums tingled. A wave of heat washed over me. This feeling was familiar. Pain pierced my gums, and blood coated my tongue.

My fangs were back!

An insane thirst came over me. My stomach growled again. This time, pain accompanied it. I needed to feed. STAT. And the blood in the refrigerator wouldn’t do. I wanted my mate. I needed my mate. Now! Vayn gripped my chin and turned my head to the side, still examining me, oblivious to the fact that my fangs were out.

“You have to tell me if something is wrong with you, mate,” he told me. “No matter how small it may seem. You have to...”

I was tired of all the chitchat. Moving as fast as I could, I reversed our positions and pinned my mate to the mattress with his hands above his head. His eyes widened as I straddled him. His t-shirt I was wearing rose to my waist. I could feel his cock through his boxers. It was so hard that with one thrust, it could probably rip through my barely-there black panties.

Vayn eyed me warily. “I thought you were hungry, mate?”

A sultry smile crept across my face. “I’m starving.”

His gaze dropped to my mouth, where I was rubbing my tongue over my fang. Had he shivered, or had I shivered?

“Your fangs are back,” he growled.

“They are. I wonder why.” Because you’re here.

I leaned down and pressed a kiss against his neck. Damn, he smelled delicious. I ran my tongue across his throat. This time, I knew it was him who shivered, not me. His shiver aroused me. It made me feel powerful. It made me want him even more. I licked his neck again. Though I was caught up in teasing him with my tongue, I didn’t miss it when he wiggled one of his hands free from my grasp.

I allowed it to happen as I continued tasting and teasing his flesh. When I tried to lift my head to tell him how much I wanted him, I found that I couldn’t move. My mate had his hand pressed against the back of my head. He was holding my head in place, not allowing me to lift it. Oh, so, that’s why he’d freed his hand.

“Are you sure?” he asked.

“Sure about what?” I whispered against his throat before kissing it again, figuring I’d tease him until he freed me.

“Mate, stop doing that,” he growled right before his cock throbbed against my center.
