Earth 77 – Shadow Bound Academy
––––––––
No one should be that damn useless.
Anger coiled through me, causing my muscles to tense as I watched my charge be tossed to the ground for the fifth time. She was weak, and that disgusted me. It made me want to put her out of her misery. She’d never make it here amongst the cursed descendants, the Fallen, and the monsters who attended and worked at Shadow Bound Academy.
There was no point in getting her hopes up. I don’t even know how she’d made it to her junior year at the academy. It damn sure wasn’t because of her fighting skills. I watched her get up and dust off the back of her pants. Since she couldn’t see me hidden in the shadows, I took a moment to appreciate how her black workout pants stretched across her ass.
And a lot of ass it was. She may not be a good fighter, but she was definitely a sight for sore eyes. My charge, Destiny Porter, was curvy in all the right places. Though her opponent has taunted her numerous times, calling her fat, I sense those taunts stemmed from jealousy. In the realm of monsters, or rather, the shadow realm, females with meat on their bones were prized above all others.
Which was why Destiny was currently being glared at by the other females in her class. Either she didn’t notice or didn’t care because she wasn’t paying the onlookers any attention. Her eyes were focused on her opponent, as they should be. If only she stood a chance. Her opponent was toned and clearly stronger than her.
Though my little charge was curvy as fuck, those curves wouldn’t help her on the battlefield or in her training classes. She lifted the hem of her shirt to wipe sweat from her eye, and I caught a glimpse of her stomach. I swallowed, washing back a surge of arousal. It was just a fucking stomach. The slight pudge of flesh shouldn’t have my mouth watering and my fangs sharpening.
Destiny bit her lower lip. My gaze was drawn to her mouth. The things I could do to that mouth. My cock jerked within the confines of my pants. She lowered her shirt, then rubbed her hands against the front of her pants. I knew a stalling tactic when I saw one. That didn’t stop me from admiring her thick thighs as she dried her sweaty palms on her pants.
Immediately my brain teleported into the gutter. I pictured those thighs wrapped around my waist. Not liking where my train of thought was heading, I forced my gaze to her face. I couldn’t believe I was standing here, imagining myself fucking my charge. My half-human charge. Damn, how long had it been since I visited the Blood House of Pleasure?
Two months.
I’ve never gone that long without visiting the vampiresses for a weekend of sin. I mentally added BHOP to my list of weekend plans. My charge lowered her cheek to her shoulder to wipe sweat from her face. It was an innocent act. Nothing sensual about it. Yet, my mind returned to the gutter, and I imagined my cum coating her brown skin, dripping from her chin, her breasts, every inch of her.
I blinked. What the fuck was I doing? Rubbing my tongue over my fang, I reminded myself that she was part human. I don’t fuck humans. Never have. Never would. I don’t care if it’s been two months since I’ve had my dick sucked. I’d never stoop as low as allowing a human to put their hands or mouth on me.
Humans are the reason I was cast out of Paradise in the first place. Like Lucifer, I believed the earths would be better without humans. Therefore, centuries ago, when he asked me to be the commander of legion 46 in his war to cleanse the earths of the humans who plagued them, I agreed. It wouldn’t have been the first time we’d tried getting rid of humans.
We’d done it on earth 1. Then again, on earth 22. Who knew the humans on earth 77 were off-limits? Even the Creator had forsaken them and moved on to create a new earth and a new race of humans. Yet, there were a few humans on Earth 77 He’d wanted to protect. For that reason, our actions against them angered Him.
If you ask me, our punishment didn’t fit our crime. Being cast out of Paradise forever was too harsh a punishment. But I’d understood it. I, too, applied harsh punishments to those who crossed me. However, taking our wings had been entirely unnecessary and only deepened my hatred for humans.
We were already trapped for eternity in the earthly bodies we used to blend in with humans when traveling amongst them. We were already no longer able to return to our former glory. Why take away our ability to soar? To add insult to injury, over time, other changes started happening to our bodies, proof that angels weren’t meant to reside outside of Paradise for extended periods.
Our powers were too great for our earthly forms. To keep ourselves from going insane, we had to splinter ourselves. Thus, our shadows were born. Shadows that were extensions of us. Shadows that housed the overflow of energies we couldn’t contain within our earthly forms. The changes didn’t end there.
Then came the fangs and the claws, followed by the intense craving for human blood. Thus, the legends of vampires were born. We’d been cursed to live off the very creatures we despised. We had no choice but to live with our curses. And those curses didn’t stop with us. They extended to any offspring we created. Those offspring were the reason my brethren built this academy.
It was created to be a safe haven for our descendants who carried on our curses. Most called them the cursed ones or the cursed descendants. They had it harder than us. Though they didn’t have shadows as we did, their cravings were more intense than ours. We could go months without feeding.
They couldn’t go three days without it. Our descendants were born with abilities we don’t possess. With each new generation, a new ability was born, which was another reason the school was needed. It allowed the Shadow Council an opportunity to monitor the abilities of the cursed ones.
Since I’m not a father and never plan to be one, I’d hoped to never have anything to do with this daycare for the cursed descendants. Unfortunately, the Fates enjoyed fucking me over. After centuries of being wingless, my Fallen brethren and I have a chance to earn our wings back. I sighed as I stared at my chance, who’d just been knocked on her ass again.
Though being her guardian irritated me, I’ll do it to get my wings back. All I had to do was make sure she survived until her abilities manifested. Simple, right? My charge spat out a mouthful of blood as she rose to her feet. For two months, I’d been secretly watching over her. She hadn’t improved at all during that time.
Six freshman duds have manifested their powers during that time, but not my junior. Her abilities were still locked after two and a half years at the academy. If it weren’t for her eyes, I would wonder if she was part Fallen at all. She had the signature gold ring around her pupils that appeared when she was excited or angry. Other than that, I sensed no power in her.
Where were her fangs? Even as a dud, she should have fangs. Where were her claws? Instead of sharp, deadly claws that could shred the flesh of her enemies, she had perfectly manicured pink nails with white tips. What could she do with those other than claw her wounded body up off the gym mat... again?
She would’ve been better off at a school for humans. At least there, she wouldn’t be teased for being a dud at her age. Frustrated, I rubbed a hand through my dark hair. Why the fuck was I given the task of guarding this particular creature who wouldn’t survive a day outside of the academy on her own?
“You look frustrated,” a deep voice said from behind me.
