That was something the Elders had asked him also. “When I’m asleep, I either dream about killing my enemies or touching my mate. Lately, that’s all I dream about.”
“So, sleep or awake, you’re either fighting or fucking,” Rhen mused.
“Shut up, vampire.”
“You said it, dragon.”
“You two,” Morgan sighed. “Damn.”
Rhen folded his arms all over his chest. “All I’ve got to say is, if you kill Sin, I’m killing you.”
“Fuck you, Rhen. I will never hurt my mate. And if you think you can kill me then you’re out of your mind.”
“If you think I can’t kill you, you’re out of yours.”
“Sinclair belongs to me.”
“I never said she didn’t.”
“I’m the one who will protect her. Always.”
“Yeah, but who’s going to protect her from you?”
Silence filled the room. Even his dragon was silent. Pissed, but silent. Who was going to protect her from him if things got out of hand on the night of their first full moon?
“I’m being serious, Kaede,” Rhen said. “This is my serious face.”
“You look stupid.”
“I’m for real. I know you love Sin. But you just admitted to wanting to cause her pain.”
“It’s only because the pull of the first full moon has my beast confused.”
“Yeah, well, confused or not, if this full moon shit doesn’t go right, who’s going to keep her safe?”
We will, his dragon growled.
“Will we? There’s a chance we can…”
We will never hurt her.
“I’ve heard stories…” Rhen started.
“So, have I,” Kaede cut him off, not wanting to hear about the alphas who went insane after killing their mates on the night of their first full moon together.
“You know what unhinged alphas are, right?” Rhen asked, not letting go of this conversation.
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“The unhinged are immortal alphas who kill their mates then go insane and become hell bent on killing the mates of other creatures also.”
“Stop.” Kaede closed his eyes, wishing he could close his ears to the sound of Rhen’s voice.
“The loss of their mates makes them go insane. And they want others to feel their pain. They go on a killing spree and kill all the female mates in their pack so that the males can understand their pain.”
“That won’t happen to me.”
“I’m sure that’s what all the unhinged said during the days before their first full moon as a mated couple.”
