‘It’s just a bit sexist that naked outfits only seem to be made for women,’ I said.
‘The naked dress is supposed to celebrate the female form and make women feel empowered. No one wants to see a man’s hairy butt or their saggy balls swinging on the red carpet.’
‘Depends whose hairy arse and balls it is. If it’s the Devlin brothers, I’d totally be here for it!’ Dana cackled.
‘There’s no way they have hairy butts,’ Joe scoffed. ‘They’re probably waxed and preened within an inch of their lives. And I’m sure their nuts are perfect.’
I swallowed hard as a vision of Mr Devlin in the shower popped into my head. Joe was right about him at least. From what I’d seen, his behind looked very smooth. As for his testicles or balls as Joe so eloquently put it, I didn’t remember because I was too focused on staring at his enormous dick.
Oh God. The last thing I needed was to start thinking about that again.
‘I bet!’ Dana added. ‘Look, maybe that dress is too much. Why don’t you try the red one?’
‘Okay.’ I blew out a breath. I’d already tried on five dresses and none of them felt like me. I knew I was supposed to be trying something different, but wearing a ‘naked dress’ was so far out of my comfort zone it might as well be on the moon.
I had to find a happy medium. Something different, but not too out there.
Dana handed me the dress and I took it into the changing room.
After removing the sheer dress, I stepped into the red one and from the second I zipped it up and looked at myself in the mirror, I knew this was the one.
Butterflies flooded my stomach and a wide grin spread across my face.
It was a halter neck design which showed a tasteful amount of boob and although it was long, it had a daring thigh high slit at the side.
‘Have you got it on yet?’ Joe called out.
‘Yes!’ I said.
‘Can we see?’ Dana asked.
I stepped outside and when they saw me, they both gasped.
‘Hello! Someone call the fire brigade because this girl is on fire!’ Joe clapped his hands excitedly.
‘You look amazing!’ Dana beamed. ‘How do you feel?’
‘Like Cinderella!’
‘It’s perfect!’ Joe gushed. ‘It accentuates your boobs and that thigh-high slit shows off your killer legs.’
‘It really does!’ Dana agreed.
‘Your milkshake is gonna bring all the boys to the yard!’ Joe said in what I think was supposed to be an American accent.
‘Milkshake?’ My face creased with confusion.
‘It’s from a song by Kelis…’ Dana clarified.
‘Good grief.’ Joe shook his head like a disappointed parent. ‘After this makeover, we’re going to have to put you through a popular culture bootcamp to bring you up to date with all of the important films, celebrities and music. I’ll send you a list later of what you need to start watching and listening to as a matter of urgency.’
‘Great idea!’ Dana said. ‘Now that your awards dress is sorted, let’s find some office outfits that’ll have all the men at Sated begging Daddy Devlin to reconsider his anti-fraternisation policy.’
‘God, I really wish he would.’ Joe sighed. ‘There’s a cute guy in IT who’s been giving me the eye.’
‘I feel your pain!’ Dana empathised. ‘I’ve been eyeing up someone in the customer services division for months. How about you, Ellie? Seen anyone in the office you’d like to bang?’
Heat flooded my cheeks.
