Now I had to wait to see whether Mr Devlin agreed…

BLAKE

Iwasn’t easily impressed.

Mostly, people disappointed me.

But not today.

Eleanor had just delivered a solid presentation, which surprised me.

When we’d first met, I’d thought she was lazy and entitled.

However, her presentation demonstrated that she was hard-working, intelligent and creative.

For once, I was glad to be proven wrong.

This app would be great for business.

The thing that wasn’t great though was my growing attraction towards her.

I didn’t understand.

She was nothing like the women I was usually drawn to.

Maybe it was because of her intelligence.

Women that were pretty or good at sucking my cock were ten a penny.

But a woman with brains and beauty? That was my kryptonite.

I liked Eleanor’s ideas. Yes, there were things I’d need to discuss with my brothers and the board and blanket personalisation with human narrators didn’t seem feasible, but overall, the idea had legs.

After my fuck-up last year, this was the kind of new offering we needed to add to our publishing portfolio.

It could be very lucrative. And I liked making money.

‘No questions,’ I said, bringing my thoughts back to business.

Eleanor’s face fell.

Ah.

She took my lack of questions as a sign of disinterest. The truth was, I had no questions because she’d thought of everything I would’ve asked.

Like I said, the presentation was solid.

‘I’ll discuss this with my brothers,’ I said, ‘but your idea has potential and if we get the green light, I’d like you to help execute it.’

‘What?’ She blinked. ‘Are you… do you mean I can stay?’

‘Yes.’ I nodded. ‘It may take a while to get approval, but in the meantime, I’m sure the PR department will have plenty of work to keep you busy. Consider yourself an official Sated employee.’ I stood up, walked over and held out my hand.

I’d like to say that the handshake was just a formality.

And whilst that was partly true, I also wanted to see if the surprise sensation I felt earlier when our hands brushed returned.
